I thought only starters could re-enter the game. I thought if a reserve came off, he was off for good. But.... I've been wrong before.
I was thinking more for the player that he was covering for in 1-2 minute increments. I didn't think there was a sub specific rule, other than if you leave in the first half, you can't come back til half time. From the handbook:
Creighton beat #7 UC-Irvine tonight 3-1. Ethan Finlay had a hat trick. Good crowd, beautiful weather--great night for a game. The Jays had a few other very dangerous chances. The Anteaters (and what a great name that is) are a skilled, fast team. I thought they controlled play for sections, but were not as threatening in the final third. Well-deserved victory for the Jays. Good to see them bounce back from the mid-week loss.
Wednesday - Creighton 0-1 vs Missouri State on the road Saturday - Creighton 3-1 vs #7 UC - Irvine at home Crowd = 3,761 with students away on Fall Break... Hat Trick for ETHAN FINLAY First CU Hat Trick since Julian Nash in 2004 Interesting to see how a BAD loss & a GOOD win balance in the polls... Go JAYS!!!
I didn't see either match, so this is pure speculation, but it seems that Creighton may have been looking past Missouri State. I know that MSU can keep matches close, but there isn't a reason CU shouldn't have won that match, IMO.
I was talking to the older brother of one of the CU starters during the game, he drove down from Omaha to Missouri for the match, and he said the team looked "horrible"...the worst he had ever seen them play. He said he thought that after the half, they might come out fired up in the second half... but they looked just as bad then. Of course, the above mentioned subbing (stalling) only compounded the problems, but according to him at least, CU would not have won regardless of the Mo. State tactics... But they bounced back nicely against Irvine...
I've also heard that Creighton just didn't play well or with fire at Mo St. Reasons could be: 1. They overlooked Mo St, having just beaten IU at Bloomington and with UC-Irvine coming up. 2. They were tired for their fourth road game in a row, having played the three previous at Maryland, Wisconsin and Indiana -- all tough teams. 3. The Mo St game was Wednesday night in the middle of mid-terms week. 4. The MVC is tougher than many people realize (including the CU players on that night) -- and the Creighton game will be the biggest of the season for just about everyone in the conference. Could be one or any combination of the above--but even if the reasons apply, they are not excuses. Mo St just did a better job on the night and got the win. Hopefully that game is an anomaly and Creighton won't have another performance like that. You'd like to think that good teams would not slip for any of the above reasons, but you see it happen with more mature professional teams. Coach Bolowich certainly had the Jays up for UC-Irvine. The game at Bradley tomorrow should be interesting--always is.
Creighton 1-0 over in SIU-E on the road in MVC play... Goal by Kallman, his first on the season. 13-2-0 on the year...
Creighton handled Drake comfortably tonight with a 2-0 victory--and could have scored more (shot off crossbar, several close misses, etc.). Finlay got both goals by using speed and determination to get behind defenders. Creighton outshot Drake 20-2, and neither Drake shot was on goal. Decent crowd (2,200+) considering it was midweek and the weather was chilly (certainly colder than I was dressed for). Brian Holt recorded his 50th win and he became Creighton's all-time leader in GK minutes played (passing Matt Allen).
CU 2-0 over Drake! Ethan Finlay gets the Brace! CU now 14-2-0 on the year and 3-1-0 in the MVC! Previously undefeated MVC opponent Mo. State lost, putting CU in tie for first in the conference. Only 2 regular season games left... Go Jays!!!
#3 Creighton Men's Soccer Posts 3-0 Clean Sheet Against Central Arkansas: Bruno Castro, Tyler Polak & Jace Peters (his first career goal) score as the Bluejays run their home record to 8-0-0 on the season. CU had season-highs with 25 shots & 12 shots on goal. 15-2-0 Overall 4-1-0 In MVC Go JAYS!!!
Creighton Mens Soccer #1 in the country in this week's NCAA RPI Rankings... Creighton Mens Soccer #2 in the Nation in this weeks Coaches Poll, and only a few points behind undefeated U. of New Mexico! (572 vs 545)
Heavy is the head that wears the crown. UConn and Maryland have each been No. 1 in the RPI the past two weeks and proceeded to lose. So, be careful of this "honor."
This is absolutely huge. In the past, Creighton has always needed to go on long roadtrips in the post-season -- in fact, that's part of what made its successful teams so impressive. For once, though, it has the chance to stay in Omaha.
Creighton 2-0 over Evansville in final regular season game. Goals from Bruno Castro (his 5th) & Dion Acoff (his 3rd). Creighton wins share of MVC Regular Season Championship. 2011 Regular Season Record: 16-2-0 Overall 5-1-0 in MVC Next up MVC Tournament, hosted by CU here in Omaha. CU has first round bye & will play Friday...
CU 1-0 over Bradley in the Semifinals of MVC Tournament in Omaha! Goal from Jose "Choco" Gomez & an assist from Ethan Finlay!! Next up Missouri State in the final on Sunday at 1pm!! Come On You Jays!!!
Jays win the MVC with a 1-0 win over Missouri State. Jose Ribas (freshman) gets his first career goal - nicely taken in the first half. Creighton was in control the whole match.
Your final score from Morrison: CU 3-0 winners over N. Illinois!!! A brace from Ethan Finlay and the other goal from Jose "Choco" Gomez!!! 31* and sunny at kick... Go Jays!!!!
UCSB coming to town. Forecast: Pain. But seriously high of 41. I might wear shorts at 41 in November!!
Good chance Seth Sinovic is drafted today by the Montreal Impact off of Sporting KC's unprotected list. If it happens, I hope it ends us being a good place for him to help build a competitive franchise. It should solidify his starter status for a couple years at least.
