The Czech Cup is open to all clubs in the country. However, the lower division clubs (5th-10th) have to play in regional qualifiers first, sometimes held the year before the actual Czech Cup. In my region, the lower ranked clubs are playing for a spot in the 2012/13 Czech Cup right now.

The preliminary round of the Czech Cup was played last weekend, and the first round goes this weekend.

Brumov, a 4th division club defeated Zlin from the 2nd division on penalties. Admira Praha (4th division) beat Kladno, who now play in the 3rd division, but not too long ago played in the 1st division.

A few more games will be played tomorrow.

I wonder how my home town of Velke Bilovice did? I am rooting for Brno to get back to the first division. I grew up watching games in my home town but Brno was always the much bigger and better team obviously and it is only a short drive away.
