Since the other thread is approaching the 1,000-post limit, I thought I'd start this one with a few words of advice for would-be songsmiths: 1. Keep the lyrics short. No more than 20 words total if possible. Anything more and people won't learn it or won't remember it. 2. Keep the tune simple. Make it one we already know or a simple, repetitive one we can all learn right away. No sheet music should be required. 3. Make it repetitive. Ninety minutes is a long time, and chants work their way slowly through a large section. The best chants can be repeated as long as we need to. 4. Keep it original. Sure, we'll do some borrowed chants ("Doop Doop") and some soccer classics ("Who's Your Father, Referee?"). But we should also be coming up with great original chants that everyone else will be copying from us. The Celtic Song is a great song...for Celtic. Let's give 'em something Philly instead.
That was my point. I hate that song as much as the next guy, but what are you supposed to do with the name Mwanga?
WE ARE THE UNION(pron. uni- yon) SING TOGETHER IN UNISON(pron. uni-son) WE ARE THE SONS OF BEN ONE FOR ALL AND ALL FOR ONE while a medium speed clap but clap stops for the lyric "we are the sons of ben" while at that time, you raise hands and scream, and continue clap at ONE.. ive been working on it, the melody is really catchy, ill try getting a link to an audio file or something.
How about We've got Mawanga we've got Mawanga we've got Mawanga we've got Mawanga to the tune of that Italian song everyone has heard but probably doesn't know the name of. Or I know a Congolese that you all know Danny Danny I know a Congolese that you all know Danny Mawanga Danny Mawangaaa Danny Mawangaaa I know a Congolese that you all know Danny Mawanga /ah quick and dirty
Just came to me: The tune is the theme song to the TV show "I Dream of Jeannie": Dan-ny, Dan-ny M-wan-ga, Dan-ny, Dan-ny M-wan-ga, Dan-ny, Dan-ny M-wan-ga, hey! (clap clap clap clap) Repeat ad infinitum. Can anyone post a YouTube of the tune for the young'uns?
Yeah, I know who Nina is. IIRC, she was all over the groundbreaking vids as well. I just couldn't resist posting a pic of JT's favorite politician!
Here's the tune for anyone who doesn't know it: [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bNg-xClEnqM"]YouTube- i dream of jeannie[/ame]
I know it is just a minor tweak but what if after he scores we end the chant with goal!" instead of hey!?
