Thankfully Okazaki dispenses with the unneccessary entertainment. Honda absolutely pwned a Danish defender, drew Sorensen off his line and slid the ball over to Okazaki, who stuck it home.

3-1 now, and Oka-chan can hear the knockout round a-callin'.

Another Japan sub, like for like with Inamoto for Endo.

Oh, and OTHER GROUP E MATCH SPOILER ALERT:

[result]The Netherlands is back in front 2-1 after a Klaas-Jan Huntelaar goal, all set up by substitute Arjen Robben's hard work.[/result]

Congrats Japan for advancing, direct free-kicks are the way to go :D. Japan starting to look like their old selves again, with improved defense, good luck against Paraguay.

Full time, 3-1 to Japan. The Blue Samurai score three goals in a World Cup for the first time and advance to play Paraguay in the Round of 16. Now they appear to be doing the hokey-pokey ... interesting.

Even taking into account a rough final 10 minutes, when is the last time Japan looked this good on this big of a stage? Russia or Tunisia in 2002? 2001 Confederations Cup?

Good lord what a game by the boys. What a game. I always supported Okada but I didn't think we had this kind of match in us.

Great to see you advance, congrats Japan. You were one of the most underrated teams ( not in my book though ) before the tournament and you proved them all wrong. :D

    Good luck Japan!

Maybe a Danish team will buy him so that they can learn something.

geez... i always knew Honda was good, but I didn't know he was THIS GOOD! but then I don't watch him enough (Don't watch much Dutch league or Russian league).

Yes, it was ONLY against Denmark, but they don't suck by any means. I mean Honda is not even 6ft, the Danes are bigger and technically pretty good, but Honda did very well against them.

Certainly want to see Honda move to a bigger league (Spain or Italy would suit him fine). After his performance today, he might get some offers.

Re: (06.24.10) FIFA World Cup: Denmark vs. Japan [R]

    The Guardian's minute-by-minute final commentary:

A disappointing match, if only because Japan were so very, emphatically superior where I had been anticipating a real battle. Brilliant to see both the 2002 hosts excelling again, proving to the world that they don't need home advantage and some slightly dodgy officiating to shine. Daisuke Matsui, Yuji Nakazawa and Keisuke Honda stood out, one in defence, one in midfield and one in attack, but if they've got any weak links Denmark didn't find them tonight.

In 2002 they got out of their group and promptly lost to Turkey; they could go one better against Paraguay here. Organised in defence – giving Denmark too much space just once, from memory, back in the 14th minute – disciplined and inventive in midfield and with Honda excellent in attack. If you haven't already, check out his assist for the third. Wildly impressive.

Congrats, a well deserved win! Denmark looked lost and clueless out there casually punting the ball around.

I think Japan should start recruiting potential MMA fighter types. Honda's MMA type of strength and explosiveness was HUGE in this game.
