01 Oct game vs Washington [R]

The game just finished a few minutes ago, and the Toreros have upset the Huskies, 2-1, on goals by Epsten (a header off a cross by MC Henry) and Lee Klopschinski. Congratulations to USD!!!

    Ball Bounces Toreros' Way

I had assumed that the Union-Tribune might have a 1-paragraph piece on the game, but instead it heads the soccer section... One paragraph talks about 1 of the goals for each team being deflected by a defender:

tomorrow's game against the Utes should be interesting.. because they both recently defeated some of the top teams in the nation (ucla & washingon).

and on a personal note, the starting goalies on both ends actually were teammates back in jr. high, lol.

i'll try to make it tomorrow but if not, blame my professors at ucsd.

03 Oct game vs. Utah [R]

Congratulations to the Toreros on their well-deserved 3-0 victory over Utah! Goals were scored by Lee Klopschinski (assts to Roby & Rowe) in the 8th minute; Michelle Rowe in the 14th minute (asst to Henry) in the first half; and Amy Epsten (asst to Rowe) in the second. The stats were about as one-sided: shots 14 to 5, and corner kicks 9 to 2.

The wins this weekend over well-regarded foes gets the team in position to start the conference schedule in a better frame of mind. Some of the losses that they've suffered in the past few weeks apparently didn't really show what their quality is.

Re: 03 Oct game vs. Utah [R]

Looks like they are playing really well right now. This is more of what I thought this team could do, after seeing them play early in the year. I got to catch the sdsu-uw game today, and while uw won 1-0, on a deflected shot, sdsu completely dominated the second half. UW crossed midfield maybe 6 times. SDSU had possesion, great crosses, combinations. The uw fans were upset and the sdsu fans were excited. It was quite a show.
conference now for west coast teams. What a weird first part of the season. I hope some predictability comes into play now, because I can't predict anything! :)

More on USD & SDSU games

I'm glad to hear that SDSU was able to hang with the Huskies, whom I had expected to be hyped up after the loss to the Toreros. Maybe they can make some noise in the MWC this year...

Here's the USD write-up on their game (I like the start of the headline ;) : San Diego Women Remain Hot, Rout Utah

10 October game vs. Santa Clara [R]

What a time for the Game Tracker feature not to be working! The USD site itself now seems to be having problems, so here is the SCU account:

    SCU Falls in WCC Opener

Again, the Torero's WCC Freshman of the Year candidate and its "Canadian Connection" did the damage, and USD seems to be on a roll.

    Congratulations to the team!

The Toreros had to come from 2 goals down to get a 3-2 Overtime Win over the Gaels. They are now 3-0 in WCC play.

Portland comes to Torero on Friday. There's supposed to be a chance of rain in the morning, but it's supposed to be clear by 2pm. Hopefully, the field won't be messed up from the rains and the 'American Football' that has been using the field...

24 Oct game vs Gonzaga [R]

The Toreros Eke Out a 1-0 OT victory against the visitors.

Even though I've thought that freshman keeper Karen Cook hadn't played all that well in the games that I've seen, she was the hero of the game for saving a penalty shot.

05 Nov game vs. LMU [R]

USD's regular season ended on a positive note, as they came away with a 1-0 win. The large attendance surprised me a bit, as there had been a threat of rain and you know how Southern Californians are ;).
