The way the brackets are set up (with LA, Toronto and Seattle on the same side) - Santos are basically the only thing standing in the way of a MLS finalist. On a historical sidenote, Santos is the only Mexican Primera club that has ever lost a home & away series to a MLS team. Kansas City to be exact, in the 2002 CONCACAF Champions Cup quarterfinals. Not that Kansas City went on to accomplish great things, they lost 7-2 on aggregate to Morelia in the semifinals.
remember this awesome match also in the quarterfinal stage [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j6JMp9mEcS4"]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j6JMp9mEcS4[/ame]
Man as a Sounders fan this by far the worst draw we could have gotten next to LA Galaxy... I think Santos Laguna is a better team than the Galaxy but, I would rather face Santos because the Galaxy seem to have our number when we play them, unless it's the US Open Cup, which we dominate for reasons I don't care to mention... I think if we can have Steve Zakuani back (he expects to be ready), which is one of the most dynamic left wingers coming up in the MLS, and we move Fernandez over to Center-mid, with alonso at defensive-mid, and Rosales as right winger, it will give us the midfield to at least be able to compete with Santos(if not more). We will also have Evans, Friberg, Neagle, and carrasco on the bench, to compete our deep midfield. Having Fredy Montero up front is great, but he's not always the most consistent and hard working player and you never know from game to game when he is going to show up... Once he got his cast off, and got back on form goal scoring wise though, he seemed to pick up on his work rate though, so hopefully thats a good sign of things to come next year... I think that Seattle is starting to get tougher in the sence that they believe they can compete against teams in Mexico, and that most of the team has played together now for 3 years, and that they are building something special there, and beating Mexican teams in my opinion is a WAY better / harder acomplishment than winning the MLS Cup, so I just hope that we can do it against Santos, but I think they are a better team than Monterey and we struggle enough against them... Eventhough we beat monterey in mexico a few months back, we only scored 1 goal and then we totally went into a shell, and were LUCKY to be able to obsorb the constant Monterey attack which was EXTREMELY impressive. I am a fan of the Mexican Primera, and to me the top 3 teams are America, Santos Laguna, and Pumas eventhough the standings don't always show it, I think that those 3 are the most dangerouse teams in the league, but NO team in the Primera is a slouch and as an MLS fan, even the worst team in the Primera would give the best MLS team (Galaxy, Sounders, RSL) a run for there money...
What a finish. I had seen the highlights before but never in real time. Montreal fans will never forget this one...
Looking at TFC, any news about Seattle ticket sales? IMO the American hopes of winning the CCL heavily depend on this series. I just don't see the Galaxy beating two Primera clubs in a row if Seattle fails to beat Santos.
I'm planning on making the trip to Seattle to support Santos. Never been to Seattle and I'am really excited about visiting Seattle and to see my team in action. I have a couple questions, hopefully you guys can help me. What are the policies in the Stadium regarding banners? I have made a few and I would really like to display them in CenturyLink field, Are they permitted? Any good spots to hang them? Also, are they going to seat the visiting supporters in a specific section? I was at the Rapids game in the Group Stage and all the visiting Santos supporters were seated separately. Also, is March a really cold month in Seattle? In Colorado there were approximately 5000 Santos supporters, not really expecting to see such big number in Seattle, but I'am sure there will be a Santos presence. Thanks
As of Feb 9 Seattle had sold about 14K for the Santos match. I suppose 25-30K will be there in the end...
Darwin Quintero will likely miss the Seattle games; he's out 2-3 weeks with an adductor (thigh) muscle injury. That's a break for Seattle; Quintero's a big factor in their transition game.
Doesn't look like Seattle will crack 30K against Santos, as of today "only" 16,500 tickets have been sold.
Only days to go. Any predictions? I have a feeling Santos will leave Seattle with a draw. 1-1 or 2-2.
