Dinamo won their 12th title in 13 seasons. They went through 4 managers, didn't qualify for UEFA competition group stage and closed the season losing 6 of their final 8 matches.
    - Rijeka finished 2nd and closed hard on Dinamo late in the season. Will play in the Europa League next season
    - Hajduk with another 3rd place finish but a slight improvement on points (+3 from last season). Will be in the Europa League next season too.
    - Osijek finished 4th, -10 points from last season but had a fantastic run in the EL. Will also be in the EL next season
    - Rudes is the story of the season, after winning only 3 matches in the first half of the season they closed the season winning 7 of their last 10 matches including wins against Dinamo, Rijeka, Hajduk and Osijek to close out the season
    - Cibalia are relegated after 2 seasons in the top flight. They will be playing in the 3rd tier of Croatian Football next season due a failure to meet their financial obligations.
    - Istra finished 2nd to last and had to play NK Varazdin in a 2 game playoff. They ended up winning the first game at home 3-1 and lost the 2nd to Varazdin 1-0. So they remain in 1 HNL on goal difference
-HNK Gorica will be newly promoted in the HNL1 as they were champions of the HNL 2. While HNL 2 will have 14 teams playing in that league next season.
