Houston have lost every away game this season. Hopefully Pareja goes back to the 4-4-2 and we find our scoring boots again.
Well, at least the losing streak is over. But the winless streak is now 4. And three of those four were at home.
Mauro Diaz saw 10 minutes of this one. Welcome back maestro. Other than that this game wasn't a good one. FCD is in a solid funk. The team isn't creating many chances and the chances they do make they typically waste. They have leaked points like a sieve over the past month. Pareja looked pissed for the final 25 minutes. Zimmerman got hurt...looked like a ligament injury. Not good. Ugly stuff, FCD.
One thing I noticed last night, in particular with Acosta, was the minute Diaz came on, he immediately was deferential and looked to get him the ball nearly immediately. I realize it's his first game back, and nothing else was really working against Houston so that in and of itself isn't a big deal, but it does make me wonder; Was some of Acosta's drive and aggressiveness offensively early this year dictate by the need to create with Diaz out? Will that go away with Diaz getting back into the swing of things? Can he still do both, when Diaz relative lack of defensive cover requires Acosta to stay deeper and cover more ground? Going to be interesting to see how the next few weeks turns out, both in terms of re-integration of Diaz and getting out of this mini slump.
Really can't argue with this. 2nd half was pretty bad with tons of possession and about the same amount of giveaways and horrid passes. Salt Lake basically is a must win at this point before we go on that horrible road trip.
That was ugly. Several players missed goals that should have been. Lamah's header in particular was infuriating. Also of note, Ricardo Clark can go play in traffic.
Particularly bad as Hedges goes off to USMNT camp with Acosta, and I assume Fig goes off with Honduras and Gruezo with Ecuador. Time for Papi to switch to the 2-6-2. Cannon and Harris hold down the back? Ulloa, Hollingshead, and Academy kids in MF? I was particularly disappointed with Zim's injury because it looked like they were trying to work him more into the attack as a target man or knock-down guy as he did for the last few minutes of the SJ game. I wanted to see how that worked.
Did something happen with the Houston traveling fans at the game, because FCD issued a ban post-game on Houston SGs bringing some of the items other SGs are allowed.
I didn't notice anything in particular, but my brother maintains he could hear somebody playing "Karma Chameleon" on the game broadcast. If the Houstankers were responsible for that...
While FCD sent the letter it was NOT the club's decision or action. It was MLS. Did you know they have a guy who's gig it is to review each game and take notes on the language used by SG's in chats and songs? true story. https://goo.gl/pRzFIC
Seems harsh for two smoke bombs and a flare in the parking lot but that article says FCD groups already have that restriction in Houston. Anyone know or remember that and what caused it. Is MLS so heavy handed in other rivalry games? They already have FCD-Houston on non-Saturday dates. Imagine some knucklehead did some dumb thing during Texas - OU and Fair Park told the offending side their band couldn't bring their instruments.
Perhaps not but Houston fans are generally dislijked any place they've traveled. Ask a Spork fan. Maybe the northwesters don't act like they do.
