I remember watching him for the first time in the U20 South American championship. If it wasn't for him we wouldn't have been in the Olympics. I remember saying to myself 'this kids has skills' I hope he makes it to Primera. The one thing that I like about DiMaria is that unquestionably he has amazing ball control but he has a humbleness about him that rivals Messi's. It's quite nice to see that quality in a youngster these days.
I don't really get the feeling of humbleness from him. Don't get me wrong, I don't think he's arrogant but I just think of situations like the red card against Bolivia and some of his mannerisms. Edit: But also since this is a Di Maria Appreciation thread P) I agree with everyone here that he is one of the few bright spots on what is a dim team right now.
It's not like I'm his best friend either but I was basing it on the general lack of news or gossip about him. lol
i think any player is going to act out if they get a red card; didn't messi even get a red card in his debut game for the NT? i'm sure he was not a happy camper...
I see the seleccion with all these incredible players and my eyes well up. Look at the names here. No team in the world cup has such treasures as we do. None of the so called favorites have this much wealth. This country is truly blessed. Di Maria to me seems to be from what I am witnessing on the road to being one of the greatest players ever. This could be the greatest Argentine team ever assembled. Each player's name is almost holy where ever they play. My god. Aguante Argentina!
I tried to mimic Di María's goal last tuesday during my weekly footie. Ball went far astray, ankle nearly twisted, hip nearly broke. Never again. Leave that to the geniuses.
Yes, I think in Messi, Di Maria, Tevez, Higuain, Aguero and Pastore, Argentina is going to have six of the top dozen players of this generation. Unreal!
There is no MVP award at the WC. Yes, DiMaria could be the player of the tournament. (Ojo a Carlitos). Let's go Argentina!!
Who'll be Superstars by the end of the World Cup? http://www.thebigtip.com.au/footbal...superstars-by-the-end-of-the-world-cup-part-1 Labelled as ‘Argentina’s next superstar’ by no less than head coach Diego Maradona, Angel Di Maria is one of the few players in the albicelestes squad to have an assured position in the starting 11. A linchpin to Benfica’s success in the Portuguese league, Di Maria has since attracted the interest of European giants Manchester United and Real Madrid, with both clubs willing to fork out big money to lure the services of the 22 year old. Besides his influential form at club level, Di Maria was also a key factor in Argentina’s coronation at the U20 World Cup in 2007, and at the 2008 Beijing Olympics. With the supreme attacking weaponry at Maradona’s disposal, Di Maria’s performances in South Africa may very well pave the way for the likes of Messi, Tevez, Higuain and Milito to shine in front of goal. With his deadly mixture of speed, dribbling and shooting, Di Maria has the capacity to dominate in South Africa, and if he does lift up the trophy, expect Cristiano Ronaldo’s transfer record to come under severe threat when the World Cup is over.
