The good thing was that he openly admitted who he was and his relationships with Cooper family.

That's true, to Mike's credit he made that clear very early on.

Dillon Powers played for the national team under 20, his father was played in the Major Indoor Soccer League.Christian Pulisic's father also played in the Major Indoor Soccer League.Brian Quinn's son plays for FC Cincinnati.Bruce Arena played for the national team, his son Kenny Arena played for the national team under 20. Emerson Hyndman's father, Schellas Hyndman played for the Cincinnati Comets in 1975.

*I know those played did not play for the national team, I posted out of curiosity.

Dante Sealy ended the development academy campaign this season with 30 goals in 23 games. Put 4 past Sacramento Republic this weekend in the summer showcase.

The last FCD homegrown signee, Bryan Reynolds, is the son of a former USYNTer Keith Reynolds (who went on to some acclaim while playing at SMU for Schellas Hyndman.......grandfather of Emerson Hyndman). Was Tim Howard's roommate apparently with some USYNTs.

Not quite the point of the thread, but...................

I don't know if you've mentioned them, but the Twellman's are members of the father-son USMNT brigade. Tim Twellman had one cap for the USMNT in the 80s (played in the NASL for the Tulsa Roughnecks and others.)

Two of Taylor Twellman's uncles also played in the NASL. Steve Twellman played for the Boston Minutemen and Mike Twellman played for the Chicago Sting.

The Dante Sealy situation could get interesting. At the moment, he's regarded by TDS as the top '03 in the country. If T&T qualify for the 2022 World Cup, perhaps they offer him a roster spot, maybe they do it even earlier in the cycle. And they'd have a very good chance to continue to qualify in 2026 and beyond given the expansion. Obviously he'll stick with the US if he wants to, but things can get complicated for anyone if an enticing offer is presented.

US U17 Tim Weah is the champion of this category. He just signed his first pro deal with PSG.
As has been mentioned in this thread ,he's the son of Liberian international and Ballon d'Or winner George Weah. Still a long way from the USMNT, though.

I don't think so. I remember reading that he played pro ball there, and also in Greece IIRC, but to my knowledge he never represented their national team.

In a mother-daughter split, Susana Zigante has played for Croatia's U17s & U19s & supposedly has at least one cap for the senior team. Her mother, Gretchen Gegg Zigante, had 2 caps as a GK for the USWNT in 1986 & 1990.

    Wow a Kenny Cooper reference?
At one time I was convinced that guy was going to be a big-time player for the USMNT.
Big strong guy, light on his feet, had a nice shot.
I was a fan of his.

Weah joined the category tonight. Moore will have to wait for another chance.

It's been about a year, so it's time for an update:

Alecko Eskandarian - father Andranik Eskandarian (Iran)
Bart McGhee - father James McGhee (Scotland)
Darlington Nagbe - father Joe Nagbe (Liberia)
Fafa Picault - grandfather Max Antoine (Haiti)
Janusz Michallik - father Kris Michallik (Poland)
Joe Gyau - grandfather Nana Gyau (Ghana) (father Philip)
John Kerr, Jr. - father John Kerr, Sr. (Canada)
Philip Gyau - father Nana Gyau (Ghana)
Shaq Moore - father Wendell Moore (T&T)
Teal Bunbury - father Alex Bunbury (Canada)
Tim Weah - father George Weah (Liberia)

In the wings having playing with (or at least in camp with) our YNTs:

Dante Sealy - father Scott Sealy (T&T)
Fernando Arce, Jr. - father Fernando Arce (Mexico)
Jesus Ferreira - son of David Ferreira (Colombia)
Jonathan Klinsmann - father Jurgen Klinsmann (Germany)

And possibly going the other direction:

Ariel Lassiter (Costa Rica) - son of Roy Lassiter (US)

    Anyone missing?

Dante Sealy just sign homegrown deal with FCD. Definitely one to keep an eye on. As you say, son of former MLSer and T&T international Scott Sealy. Dante was born in New York, so he's fully US eligible.

Still very far from ever being a slight possibility, but Canadian legend Dwayne de Rosario's son Adisa, a 2004 GK for Toronto FC U15, is listed on both the official DA site and Football Talents with American nationality, just one of five US-born, Canada-raised DA products in recent years. (The two most prominent ones are Akinola and Odunze, both of whom have gone with the US for now.) You'd assume Adisa was born in California when Dwayne was playing there professionally, and eventually raised in his listed hometown of North York, Ontario.

Jesus Ferreira looks more and more like a player that's going to represent the US. He may not get citizenship in time for the U20s, but he'll probably get a look with our U23s later in the year. [Particularly if our top U23 forwards like Sargent and Weah aren't available for that team.

Jesus's father is still active. He still plays for Union Magdalena in the Colombian first division.

So this really could be a case (like the aforementioned Arce) of a US youngster player for a different national team than his ACTIVE father.

It seems to me that the Jesus Ferreira one is just a matter of time.....................

By the way, his father David Ferreira.............is STILL active for Union Magdalena in Colombia.

Not only did David play for Colombia, he was on their 2001 team that won Copa America.

I'm actually surprised at how few there have been, because I definitely remember seeing a lot more US-born sons of foreign NT players in MLS. I just can't remember off the top of my head who they were.

This is just about to go down. As a reminder, Jesus' father was capped 39 times by Colombia. He played on three Copa America teams (01, 04, 07), and famously won it in 2001. His other son, Santiago Ferreira, plays for the FCD U17s.

    Another one for the future:

Malick Sanogo born in the United States , on June 30, 2004, raised in Germany, went through the youth of the Berlin Union , of great ability, complemented with good speed and header.

He could also represent Ivory Coast, he is the son of former international Boubacar Sanogo, who was also his coach at U15.

Boubacar had 21 caps for Ivory Coast. When Malick was born, he was playing the UAE. Never played in the US, so interesting how Malick ended up being born in NYC.

Next season I want to make my debut with the United States national team, my U19 debut, maybe train with the professional team, win a title with the U17 and finish as the best scorer in my league.
