Zyen is a big time athlete, his straight line speed is legitimately world class and potentially unparalled in the US pool outside of Yedlin. I really don't think he sticks as an attacker though, like Yedlin before him I also see Jones transistionibg to fullback as a pro (actually think he's played there once or twice for Schalke this season), the difference being Zyen is actually a lefty.
I think you are on to something, the question is will he be able to do the conversion in a short time.
who knows? plenty of players train with 1st team, here and there throughout season but it doesn't really mean much tbh.

only 1 U19 player made the 1st team squad that will play La Liga club Sevilla and it's not Jones. and 7 U23s made the squad and no Tataigue. Another wasted chance for him due to long term injuries. While Wright and Weston are with USA.
not surprising tbh, always doubted he'd get promoted. Most of the Schalke U19 talk is on other players with Kutucu being one of those usually 3 suspects.
Probably a good sign that it isn't working out: Independence sign U-20 #USMNT forward Zyen Jones.— Charlotte Independence (@Independence) April 19, 2019
Zyen Jones' Schalke u19 career in all competitions: 18 matches, 1,278 minutes, 3 goals, 3 assists. Decent for the left winger in his first (now only, so far) season in Europe.— Daniel (@DanielSmith1022) April 19, 2019
I suspect there is a lot more to this story. Why did Schalke U19 leave him out completely the last 2 games? I mean Schalke U19 are in actual contention for the U19 Championship Run this season as they currently lie in 2nd place and top 2 make that run from U19 West. And 3 games remain for them as well. Attitude/unprofessionalism?
This is a strange one. Homesickness? Schalke have 3 other yanks at the club. It would have to be some extreme case of that. Attitude/unprofessionalism as previously mentioned? Wouldn't he have been buried on the bench prior to be beginning of April and not have started 7 of the last 8 matches he played in if that was the case? He had a *decent* March, too. A goal and assist in 270 minutes. I'm guessing it was a one-year deal and Schalke simply decided to cut bait? Why wouldn't they wait until the end of the season? A few questions to be answered here.
Let's remember it's entirely possible he is the one who pushed for an early end. Players get unhappy with a situation for a lot of reasons, including ones that have nothing to do with what happens on the pitch.
I recall there was whispers that unprofessionalism was involved in Shaft Brewer when he was at RB U19 and that's why he barely ever played there.
The simplest explanation would be that both parties knew a deal was in the works and consequently Schalke didn't want to give any more minutes to a player whose departure was imminent.
