Re: Zurawski to Galaxy? The Daily Mail is also reporting it (says the BBC website - I wouldn't buy that pile of crap). http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maciej_Zurawski Yeah, he's a Polish international (67 caps, 16 goals). Definitely the kind of player who can score a hatful in the MLS. If Galaxy (or anyone) can get him on a free and for non-DP wages (he's still gonna be high), then that is a brilliant signing. Small and a little bit stocky, but technically very good indeed and a great finisher. Gets in to good positions. Clever player. How's LA's Polish-American population?
Re: Zurawski to Galaxy? I've posted some of his highlight reels here: https://www.bigsoccer.com/forum/showthread.php?t=229024&page=5
Re: Zurawski to Galaxy? Not the biggest in the U.S., but it does exist. One of the places that hosts some events is actually in the same city as the HDC.
Re: Zurawski to Galaxy? The usual whining and complaining until MLS finds an "exception". Or the team will be filled out by the Watford Long John Silver impersonators.
Re: Zurawski to Galaxy? Trade for an allocation? A couple of picks and/or a decent player might do it.
Re: Zurawski to Galaxy? Really? That's cool. I was thinking New York, Chicago or Toronto would be the best best for a Polish star. Still, hope LA get him, as he's the kind of player MLS needs. Solid internationals, not superstars. He's 31, so getting him on $400,000 a year + bonuses seems plausible. BBC story... http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/teams/c/celtic/7134369.stm
Re: Zurawski to Galaxy? He's more of a withdrawn striker though, isn't he? Same as Landy-cakes. Not sure how that's going to work for the Gals on the field - creating opportunities was not their problem last season. Getting someone to finish those opportunities was. Do they expect this guy to play as a #9?
Re: Zurawski to Galaxy? Hmm, I don't think he's much like Donovan. He'll probably play fairly deep as he lacks pace. He's mainly a bit of a goal poacher. A strikers striker, as they say. He can play on the right-wing, well, he has for Celtic, but I doubt you'll see him there at Galaxy. He'll be the main striker I wager. They could do with someone with a bit of height next to him. I don't think Buddle would be a bad bet.
Re: Zurawski to Galaxy? He's only been doing that recently, both for the NT and Celtic. When he works really well with his midfielders he can be awesome as a true striker, as he has been for Wisla and sometimes at Celtic. See the highlights. I bet he would be a great compliment to Donovan and Beckham, although it may take him a while to get used to playing with them: he's a slow starter, and has been for every team he played. I don't think he scored for his first seven games at Celtic, but once he did, it was like opening a sack full of goals.
Re: Zurawski to Galaxy? Zurawski has never been a withdrawn striker he has been a clinical finisher. Galaxy need to clear out the rest of the forwards and have Donovan and Zurawski up top. This is a good signing if only Chicago could get themselves a Polish player. ---------Donovan--Zurawski-------- Martino------------------------Klein ---------Mathis--Beckham---------- ????-----Xavier----????----Albright -----------Cannon------------
Re: Zurawski to Galaxy? He is the captain of a very good polish national team and I'm not just saying that because I'm Polish . What a signing this would be, definately a million times better than Pavon. Your going to get sale outs in Chicago, Toronto, and about 10,000 more in New York if Zurawski keeps having a role with the Polish nationals. He's a good legit player.
Re: Zurawski to Galaxy? A few questions... Why is he riding the bench? Why has he not found net in 7 matches? How serious were his injuries (is he damaged goods)? Why doesn't Celtic want him? This league doesn't need any more Denilsons, Pavons, Wanchopes that have pedigrees but come here and totally suck and embarrass the league for making such a pathetic decision. I hope there is evidence that he can produce with Beckham providing service.
Re: Zurawski to Galaxy? I would guarentee that he would score like JPA. He's a hell of alot better then Denilson, Pavon, and Wanchope. He scored a boatload of goals for Wisla and Celtic. 2005/2006 Celtic F.C. (Scotland) 27 games (3 sub app) 16 goals 2006/2007 Celtic F.C. (Scotland) 22 games (7 sub app) 10 goals that isn't like four years ago he has just fallen out of favor with Celtic. Like Denilson, Pavon, and Wanchope were declining way before they came to MLS.
Re: Zurawski to Galaxy? Um for one Zurawski has a much better pedigree than Pavon and Wanchope wasn't doing well in Japan. Zurawski is sitting the bench because Celtic has probably the best attacking players possibly in the last two decades. Kenny Miller (Scotland international regular) sits the bench there. Riordan is a highly rated youngster who scored for them today. Scott McDonald has done brilliantly in the CL and Jan V. Hesselink is also highly rated and wanted back in Holland.
Re: Zurawski to Galaxy? It's really a huge name in Poland. Polish fans will come out in droves for this guy. Not only will he score alot of goals for the Galaxy but it's like getting the Beckham of Poland. The only bigger name would be Ebi Smolarek. The Galaxy will be watched all the time by Polish fans just like the Galaxy are watched by England fans now. Smart, especially if he stays captain and starts in the Euro's. Poland's team is very very good nowadays.
Re: Zurawski to Galaxy? I think Zurawski is done, he has been downright awful since the 2006 WC. I would not want him on the Fire, and he is currently one of the more disliked (for his level of play) Polish internationals. In his prime he was a clinical finisher, although he would usually disappear in big games. Now he rarely gets in position to score. Of the over the hill washed-up Polish players I would take a chance on Frankowski over Zurawski.
