Ok, everyone. We need to give credit where credit is due. We have bagged on Jovan Kirovski a lot. Both as a Galaxy player and part of the FO. But apparently he not only spent 3 years working on Zlatan to come here, but in the end got Zlatan to walk away from a $100million offer in China to come here instead.

So from the bottom of my heart, thank you Jovan for giving us last Saturday. And what will probably be many YouTube highlights to come. Well done....

    Agreed. Credit, etc.

But should we forget J. Perdo and his ilk?

Who can forget Perdo? His introductions of the SNL host, cast members and musical guests will be remembered forever!

Roman and Zlatan are big wins, JDS is a win. Almost everyone else is a loss, with Gerard and Gio huge Ls. I say it’s pretty balanced for the moment, but overall not good enough.

And let’s be honest, Jovan did NOT convince Zlatan to come to LA and turn down $100M. His wife did

Maybe the lion we hired to film the Zlatan unveiling was very convincing.

I hope Cozmo gets a lion costume this year.

I still don't really understand why Zlatan is here. I understand the appeal of LA - the weather, the glamour, all that. But turning down maybe $50-$100 million as has been reported?? For TAM money?? Even for a rich guy that is an amazing decision.

I imagine there is value in being more widely known in the US and likely lucrative endorsements. But can you imagine what a Zlatan endorsement would be worth in China? He's exactly the kind of guy/athlete/personality that could be incredibly popular there.

Some of you were predicting this for years so kudos to those who did. For me the whole thing seems so improbable. So hell of a nice job Kirovski. :thumbsup: Makes me almost forgive you recruiting Pedro. ;)

Who's his shoe deal with? I'm thinking the companies he's affiliated/endorsing has to be kicking in big time for him to be here. No way he's only here for $1.5 million a season.

Maybe but sports in China stay in China. Anything sports wise in China has no appeal in other countries. Zlatan is already a worldwide star but if he gets that push from America he could be even bigger. Hollywood, movies, television, more endorsements, etc.

One reason is the same reason you don’t play FIFA on the easy setting every game.

But really if you look at Beckham, commercials, shoe deals, and like @CakeYear said, Hollywood. America loves star players and everyone knows that star players here also can be a brand. The NBA is probably the best at it. If he follows that model, he’ll make as much as he wants. He’ll probably latch on with Gatorade, a shoe company, coke or Pepsi, etc. Beckham made $160,000,000 from adidas alone.

He’s really getting here at the right time, too. Soccer is now a thing and he’s got the type of attitude that Americans love.

I don’t think there’s any question that maybe after the first goal and definitely after the game winner, Zlatan has already paid back his total contract just in increased marketing value and buzz. would be nice if Anschutz was pleased and decided to invest a little to support him.

Given the salary cap, where would you see that investment being made now? The issue is not a refusal to spend money. The issue is throwing away money on GDS. Its not spend more, it's spend smart.

Gotta dump JP and Ciani as a start. It’s always possible to do something if there’s a desire.

Dumping them NOW does not open any cap space. It doesn't work that way.

How long do you think Zlatan will play against SKC? I am guessing that since he hasn't played in a long time that Sigi and his staff will take things slowly. I think a maximum of 30 minutes with 25 being more likely.

About halfway through the fist period they showed him on the big screen with the game highlights and interviewed him rink-side on tv. Even after they came back from commercial there was a good deal more Zlatan/Galaxy talk. Love it.

So he got an interview and his highlights played during both Kings and Lakers games. Would Magic keep that from happening with the Dodgers?
