Re: Zimmerman to Belgium? I'm surprised noone has posted this yet : Zimmerman has signed with SV Kapfenberg, currently last placed in Austria's Bundesliga [or whatever it's called this week]: http://www.kicker.de/news/fussball/regionalliga/startseite/artikel/382404/
Re: Zimmerman to Belgium? Is this a loan? I sure as hell hope so. I can't seem to see anything on KSV's site yet. I was hoping he'd get loaned to Westlo since they expressed heavy interest. They have all of 2 ponits from 7 games this season managing 7 goals and yielding 14. I did notice KSV accquired Miroslav Stepanek, a Czech Rep. U-19 international on loan from HSV so I'm hoping they are doing the same for Preston. i wouldn't want to see Preston sign a contract with cellar dwelling Austrian club.
Re: Zimmerman to Belgium? That's a bit of a surprise. I guess that makes him a teammate of Damon Wilson, too.
Re: Zimmerman to Belgium? Doesn't seem so. According to the article he has signed a two year deal. Edit: also on HSV's page, no loan, two year contract (as above): http://www.hsv.de/index.php?id=16047&tx_ttnews[tt_news]=3700&tx_ttnews[backPid]=16043&cHash=2ab74f9241
Re: Zimmerman to SV Kapfenberg (Austria) Austria in general is ~ higher Bundesliga II, so it's a fine deal for a 19-year old.
Re: Zimmerman to SV Kapfenberg (Austria) Well.. who are the SV Kapfenberg strikers that Zimmerman will have to compete against? are the other strikers any good? Is the team any good? Do they play an attacking style?
Re: Zimmerman to SV Kapfenberg (Austria) Well Jaqua wowed in Austria, so hopefully Zimmerman can show his class. (If he has any.)
Re: Zimmerman to SV Kapfenberg (Austria) if he gets 20-30 games under his belt this year, it would be successful. if he continues to see reserves games then it's back to MLS in 2 years.
Re: Zimmerman to SV Kapfenberg (Austria) Apparently Kapfenberger have another American, Damon Wilson, who played collegiately at Monmouth. Born in '85. Also, Kapfenberger just beat Altach, so they're no longer in last place.
Re: Zimmerman to SV Kapfenberg (Austria) Why is Jaqua back in the US? Not being difficult...I really don't know.
Re: Zimmerman to SV Kapfenberg (Austria) Don't quote me but I believe it was for personal reasons. He reportedly had offers to stay but for reasons not made public he wanted to return;
Re: Zimmerman to SV Kapfenberg (Austria) Nate is likely to end up in Seattle after this season and the money is probably adequate and comparable to the A-B-liga.

Re: Zimmerman to SV Kapfenberg (Austria) Wilson is apparently a Jersey native who captained Monmouth University and was drafted by an MISL team before moving to Austria: http://overthere.american-soccer-news.com/?p=40
Re: Zimmerman to SV Kapfenberg (Austria) Here's an article about Wilson signing with Kapfenberg. Wilson, a forward, apparently got a 3 year contract there. A friend from Monmouth got him the opportunity.
Re: Zimmerman to SV Kapfenberg (Austria) Zimmerman makes the bench for the first time (I believe): http://soccernet-assets.espn.go.com/match?id=246198&league=AUT.1&cc=5901 Still awaiting his debut for Kapfenberg...cap him now
Re: Zimmerman to SV Kapfenberg (Austria) Wednesday, Preston played the second half against FC Karnten, falling 2-0. Check out the highlights More photos
Re: Zimmerman to SV Kapfenberg (Austria) Preston put in a full 90 minutes against LASK Linz, falling 2 - 0 away. He lined up in an experimental 3-4-3, playing center forward and had a shot denied at close range in the 9th minute. Zim received a yellow card in the 67th minute. Check out the highlights. As usual, they took mostly photos of Preston.
Re: Zimmerman to SV Kapfenberg (Austria) I am a big PZ fan, but I think he may be a bit limited at the professional level because he hasn't added a few inches. I admit I haven't seen him play in a few years, but Preston does not have top notch skills on the ball or speed, and it seems he hasn't developed the kind of body needed for a target forward. However, he does certainly have the needed intangibles, a wonderful workrate, an ability to hold up the ball and get his teammates involved, and of course a nose for the goal. Anyhow, it's great to see him getting some PT and I hope he does well in Austria.
Re: Zimmerman to SV Kapfenberg (Austria) From your description, it sounds like he may be a Taylor Twellman-type. While that wouldn't make him a world beater on the national team, he could certainly forge a very productive career for himself, as Twellman has. It's hard to believe, but this kid is still only 19.
Re: Zimmerman to SV Kapfenberg (Austria) It is kind of strange Zimmerman is only 19. I remember seeing him before the USA v Czech game in Germany. I think there are a lot of comparisons between Zimmerman's play and Twellman's. And you are certainly right he could have a solid professional career, and I hope he does. One thing Zimmerman has that Twellman never had is a better ability to hold up and distribute the ball. He seems quite composed with the ball and seems to make pretty good decisions when he passes it on. That was never really Twellman's strong point. Twellman has also had a very good professional career. But he is another good example of someone who could have achieved more if he would have been blessed with a target forward's body. I guess I just am a bit disappointed to not see Preston develop physically the way I thought he would when he has so many other useful skills that a bigger body would make even harder to deal with...
