Re: Zimmerman to Belgium? Zimmerman still in Belgium now on trial with Westerlo according to Yanks-Abroad.
Re: Zimmerman to Belgium? On jupilerleague.be he name is not even mentioned, nevertheless Westerlo and the belgian league could be a good for him, young players can mature over there without much stress during 2 or 3 years before they make the big step to any european big league
Re: Zimmerman to Belgium? He 's still playing for Westerlo, they are happy about his performance in their last few games. Can't find any more info about him for now.
Re: Zimmerman to Belgium? Belgian press reports that he played with Westerlo a friendly game against Molwezel and was the best player of his team More information in dutch can be found on ''kvcwesterlo.be'' I guess he must be very close to signing a contract now
Re: Zimmerman to Belgium? This is awesome news. People forget that this kid is only 19. (Doesn't turn 20 until November). He could very much still turn out to be an important role player for the Nats.
Re: Zimmerman to Belgium? Freddy Adu being the best player on the field (including Jo and Pato) at the WYC 07 vs. Brazil.....Altidore being signed by Villareal for $10m fee...... Michael Bradley lighting it up during a 2 month stretch in the Dutch top division.... That was awesome news... Zimmerman on fire against FC brick-in-the-stomach? Yawn, wake me up when they are near the top of the table and leading the team in scoring...
Re: Zimmerman to Belgium? Don't pee in everyone's cornflakes, Mr. Sunshine. It is great news, regardless of whether or not he's on the level of Adu/Altidore/Bradley. Westerlo are currently a feeder club to Chelsea FC, so you never know...
Re: Zimmerman to Belgium? I know. He will never play for Chelsea. But with some improvements Real is possible. I mean Salt Lake City.
Re: Zimmerman to Belgium? The belgian league is OK for young players A few years ago Toure (now Barsa) and Eboue (now Arsenal) played in the belgian league Gooch devellopped well at La Louviere before going to Standard de Liege and the US MNT Maybe Zimmerman could do the same
Re: Zimmerman to Belgium? Its a friendly against a scrub team. Uh, don't we need a bit more substance before we call stuff like this great news... What's the difference between this and Alex Nimo showing well, scoring in a US Open Cup match? Did BS go ga-ga over that? Good for the kid, but 'awesome' 'great news'....are we parents here?
Re: Zimmerman to Belgium? He's actually (off the rumors) quite different from Chad - not much pace but can finish.
Re: Zimmerman to Belgium? Its good to see the kid doing well. At 19 he still has plenty of time to develop his game.
Re: Zimmerman to Belgium? [deleted by mod] For me getting playing time at Westerlo with the first team for a 19 year old is better than sitting in the reserves at Hamburg. It's not one of the bigger teams in Belgium, and frankly I don't know much about it except that Lukáš Zelenka plays there. I just want all of our plyaers in this age group to be seeking first-team football, which for me is a lot more beneficial than sitiing on the bench at a big club.
Re: Zimmerman to Belgium? ''Ever seen him play? He isn't Toure or Eboue. More like Chad Barrett.'' With all due respect, but did you see the first 15 or 20 games of Toure and Eboue in Belgium? They were nowhere as good as they are now. Lots of yellow cards, losts of concentration losses, lots of running out of position etc... Over ten years ago 2 young absolutely nobodies arrived in Belgium, their names were Jan Koller and Tomasz Radzinski. They got to play, progressed a lot, played even champions league and got transferred for a lot of money to Dortmund and Everton I just believe that the leagues from Belgium and Holland can be very interesting for younger players looking for minutes with the first team, and not the reserve squad in front of 25 fans
Re: Zimmerman to Belgium? Let's not forget that Belgium is a EU-citizenship factory. That should be a huge factor for any semi-prominent prospect. A club like Westerlo is arguably a mid-tier Colaship level and, if you can get on those wages, you're doing pretty effin' well.
Re: Zimmerman to Belgium? Yeah, could be worse. In three years he'll still only be 22 and possibly have a Belgian passport to his name. Not bad.
Re: Zimmerman to Belgium? http://www.soccer365.com/us_news/story_14808235147.php Zimmerman wants out, but only for a loan I think a loan would be great for Preston, provided he gets some first-team minutes. It will no doubt be tough to crack the 18 for HSV playing for the reserves, but Hamburg may see another side of him if he can get onto the field somewhere else.
Re: Zimmerman to Belgium? The Belgian Pro League just started and Zimmerman is nowhere to be seen on the Westerlo roster
Re: Zimmerman to Belgium? Zimmerman must be staying at Hamburg. He started in the HSV II match against FC Sachsen Leipzig on Sunday, however he drew a yellow and was substituted out in the 36th minute (I wasn't at the match so I'm not sure if it was tactical or injury-related). edit: if anyone cares, the match ended a 1:1 tie with HSV getting a last-minute equalizer in the 95th minute.
Re: Zimmerman to Belgium? Its kind of a rehash of some of the earlier stories, but soccer365 has a new article. http://www.soccer365.com/us_news/story_28808233718.php
