thought all the rumors about zidane oming to LA should stop now, heres a link about zidane not coming to LA http://themlszone.blogspot.com/2007/05/yallop-zidane-not-galaxy-bound.html
According to Nick from Fox Football Phone In not Geeber the replacement Nick, He had some inside info that Zidane was coming to LA. Not that I would bet on it personally.
There is more to that quote, according to the article, Yallop said that to his awareness Zidane will not be coming to the Galaxy but Yallop also did added if there was the chance of this happening, Zidane might be wooed by Galaxy management outside of his own knowledge." "You’ll have to ask [Galaxy general manager Alexi Lalas] and Tim [Leiweke]," declared Yallop of such a possibility. "They’re the ones who would be dealing with that." Well that's my blog and I had the same thought about Yallop not knowing about Beckham really... But with Zidane, he would be commanding a salary of at least $10 million/year, if reports are correct. He also has a 6-game FIFA suspension to serve. So even if we signed him today (we'd need another DP spot), he wouldn't be available to play for a few weeks yet. To get that DP spot, we'd likely have to trade some players like Sturgis, Kirk, Findley, etc... and it's not worth it to throw away the team's future for (less than) one year of Zidane being here. Plus, what do you gain by adding Zidane to the Galaxy? All of the home games are going to be sold out once Beckham arrives, will the away games see that much more of a spike if we add Zidane? I'd much rather see him go to a team that needs the attendance help (Chivas would be perfect). Imagine the Super Clasico with Becks vs. Zizou. Anyway, I stand by the blog and Andrea Canales' report that Zidane isn't coming to the Galaxy.
How about we stick with Yallops comments: "You’ll have to ask [Galaxy general manager Alexi Lalas] and Tim [Leiweke]," declared Yallop of such a possibility. "They’re the ones who would be dealing with that." Really, its out of Yallop's hands on this one.
Really, if we're going on that theory, we asked Alexi already, and he gave us that wavering hand motion that generally means "so-so", which we interpreted to mean maybe or maybe not. Which we then interpreted to mean they're talking to him, but they don't know whether or not a deal can be done. So how's that for rampant speculation?
Well, I guess it means that "we dont know" but I dont think its enough evidence to claim or confirm that he is not coming to play for the Galaxy. Lets just wait and see what happens.
I'm sorry but why does everyone keep bringing this FIFA suspension up? The suspension is on international soccer, which he has retired from.
Well I was under the impression that his suspension included any leagues that are sanctioned by FIFA, (i.e. MLS). But I could be wrong... I can't remember if it was a 3 or a 6-game suspension.
I don't think the suspension should count to league play, but I don't know for certain. I mean do suspensions and cards carry over from the Gold Cup or Champions Cup, no.
Zadine's ban was from international competition but since he has retired from it, he served his ban doing community service Punishment: http://www.fifa.com/en/media/index/0,1369,118464,00.html Suspensions and fines were the sanctions pronounced by the FIFA Disciplinary Committee at its meeting today (Thursday, 20 July 2006) as part of the disciplinary proceedings opened against Zinedine Zidane (France) and Marco Materazzi (Italy) after their clash during the 2006 FIFA World Cup™ final in Berlin on 9 July. Zinedine Zidane has also agreed to do community service work with children and youngsters. Meeting under the chairmanship of Marcel Mathier (Switzerland), the five-man FIFA Disciplinary Committee imposed a three-match ban and a fine of CHF 7,500 on Zinedine Zidane on account of his head-butt to Materazzi's chest. As Zidane has now retired from international football, the committee took note of Zidane's pledge to do three days of community service work with children and youngsters as part of FIFA's humanitarian activities. Materazzi was suspended for two official matches of the Italian national team and fined the sum of CHF 5,000 for repeatedly provoking Zidane.
