Zell Miller is a great American. If you're looking for southern cracker stereotypes, look to senators Robert Byrd and Ernest Hollings.

Let me guess, without know who these people are.................they are Democrats?

You know, there are some threads in these forums where you don't have to put your slanted opinion into.

Silly Dowd, she is supposed to be in the home raising her husband's children.

Hay, Butt Munch, look up Byrd and you'll see that he wore a freakin Klan hood and was the freakin leader of the movement in West By God. Byrd IS STILL REPRESENTING
West by God in the Senate.

    From the article:

Miller had said: "The more Maureen Loud gets on 'Meet the Press' and writes those columns, the redder these states get. I mean, they don't want some highbrow hussy from New York City explaining to them that they're idiots and telling them that they're stupid."

Well, it's hard work, but somebody has to do it.

    Maureen "Loud" Dowd: Bad!
    Zell "Sheriff" Miller: Good!

Zell's my new best friend; a man unafraid to tell the Dems they're barkin up the wrong tree! I see so much future for Zell... and he is a common man to boot! Guts, Guns, and a Bible... What a guy!

Except that he voted with Republicans more often than Democrats. He supported the nomination of John Ashcroft to AG. He co-sponsored Bush's $2 trillion tax cut. Hardly the record of a man who would be loved by the Democratic Party.

Yep, hell of a speech he made in distorting and flat-out lying about Kerry's voting record. Sadly for Miller, even spitballs need to be paid for somehow. Maybe with more tax cuts, I'm really not sure.

I was thinking more like "walking talking erectile dysfunction". He's a limp weenie, plain and simple. No better than Norm Coleman, my "senior" senator from the great state of MN.

Before GW Bush came along did the demos called him nutty? I don't remember them doing that back then.

I take it you feel he has provided some STIFF competition because his support for the Democrats has begun to PETER out.

He was state chairman for Lyndon JOHNSON, but he sure took the Democrats out to the WOOD shed.

In 1972 he worked hard to defeat DICK Nixon, but lately has had a BONE to pick with his party.

Honestly, if you guys aren't the limit. Never mind what he has to say, just attack him persoanlly and call him names and that will for sure mean you won, right?

It's worked well so far, hasn't it?

You mean the KKK organizer and the guy who, while Governor of South Carolina, had the state flag changed to include the Confederate Battle Banner?

But they CAN'T be bigots - they're DEMOCRATS!

Hey, look everybody, if you're so wound up with partisan hate that you can't see that Maureen Dowd is a fairly ignorant (not just wrong, not just misguided, but actually ignorant) old cow who's well on her way to replacing Helen Thomas as the most ridiculous old bag of a harpie in all of journalaism, then you need to take a break and get some perspective.

I don't hold out tons of respect for Byrd or Hollings regardless of their party affiliation. My point was that Zell also has some not so racially harmonious things in his past.

Honestly, he has a mixed legacy here in Georgia. He did a lot of good things while governor but certainly had his detractors on both sides of the aisle even then. Zig Zag Zell is not a new nickname for him, after all, so it's not fair to say that he's only being criticized for recent behavior....although, sure, that's the main reason.
