Does anyone know why Zandi has been coming off the bench more this season? I thought I heard he got hurt during Iran's Qualifying games over the summer or during training in August. If that is the case is it because he is not fully match fit yet?

I just read on an Iranian site that Zandi was detained this week when he entered Iran. Apparently, the customs agent felt that Zandi needed to complete his 2 year compulsary civil service.

yeah he "didn't feel" like that... in Iran military service is compulsory (it is in most of other countries in East Asia as well) and if one is holding Iranian passport should complete 18 months of military service... but ppl in his case that live outside Iran can pay a fee instead which is about 6,000 USD... IFF spokesman already stated that he won't have any problem, hinting that IFF will pay for it!

Here is an excellent analysis of the upcoming Iran games in the LG cup with alot of talk about Zandi's style and how the lack of playing time at Kaiserslautern is effecting his play with Iran.
