Re: Zak Whitbread Watch Thread Millwall have said they would be very content keeping Zak till January to help them the first half of the season. League One is extremely competitive this year. Millwall, Leeds, Charlton, Norwich, MK Dons Of course, I hope Zak stays
Re: Zak Whitbread Watch Thread I wonder if Peterborough United would still be interested if he lowered his salary demand.
Re: Zak Whitbread Watch Thread I wonder if Zak is regretting his decision to turn down Peterborough. Surely Peterborough were offering him more than he was making at Millwall. His agents must have been telling him there was interest from other Championship clubs. I do agree with Zak, however. If he's in League 1 this season, he's not making the world cup roster. If he's doing well in the Championship.............he'll at least get called up for a friendly in early 2006 so Bob can check him out. (In 06 we had 10 friendlies from Jan to June, there are plenty of opportunities). And I like that ambition.
Re: Zak Whitbread Watch Thread http://soccernet-assets.espn.go.com/report?id=268662&league=ENG.3&cc=5901 Whitebread wasn't in the lineup today in Milwall's 1-1 tie with Southhampton. Is he injured?
Re: Zak Whitbread Watch Thread Well, turning down a contract offer from a Championship League team doesn't help his case.
Re: Zak Whitbread Watch Thread And it looks like he will miss the next match as well http://www.teamtalk.com/football/story/0,16368,1797_5483622,00.html
Re: Zak Whitbread Watch Thread Zak will have surgery on his hip tomorrow and will be out for at least 2 months. So much for his dreams of transferring to a better team and playing his way into World Cup contention http://www.football.virginmedia.com/page/Millwall/NewsDetail/0,,12555~1756465,00.html
Re: Zak Whitbread Watch Thread If he is back in mid-October, he will still have options to play well and transfer in January. Millwall and Millwall fans love Zak and I know Zak does like Millwall. Either way, he's probably out of the USMNT picture. There are other fringe players currently ahead of him in the pecking order (Orozco, Marshall, Conrad, Goodson, Parkhurst) Unlike most people here, I have seen Zak play a lot in recent years.
Re: Zak Whitbread Watch Thread I've seen Zak play a fair amount of times in the past few years and seen highlights of more and I think he's better then all of the names above him, barring Marshall perhaps, so that's unfortunate. I've read numerous Leeds fans list him as being in the top 5 of best players they've seen in our time in league one.
Re: Zak Whitbread Watch Thread I don't know if this injury in itself keeps him out of the USMNT picture. He wasn't going to get any callups for WCQ between now and October anyway. I imagine even if he's has a good 2nd half of the season for Millwall, Bob may bring him in for a friendly to check him out. In 2006 we had 10 friendlies between January and June for Bruce to look at every conceivable player. Agree with you somewhat, though. He probably won't get his move to the Championship now, which makes it harder for him to demonstrate his abilities at a higher level. There's no doubt that's a problem for him.
Re: Zak Whitbread Watch Thread Zak to Swansea during the break? Jenkins also confirmed a deal to bring Millwall's American defender Zak Whitbread to the Liberty Stadium will be reviewed in January. "We agreed a deal for Zak with Millwall. But because he has just had a hip operation, the player felt it was better if he remained at the club until he was fully fit again. "We will review the situation again in January.'' http://www.walesonline.co.uk/footba...ea-turn-down-ferrie-bodde-bid-91466-24579519/
Re: Zak Whitbread Watch Thread He's an uncapped player. He would be a longshot for South Africa no matter how you slice the cake, even if he wasn't injured this summer. I'd like to get a look at Whitbread with the national team, but from what I read, he only drew interest from two smaller Championship clubs during this tansfer period before his injury. And, he plays a position of relative depth for the US pool. As we know, central defender often peak later, so I could see him being a candidate for 2014 - someone who gets integrated into the team post-2010.
Re: Zak Whitbread Watch Thread Agreed. Of course, he will still be in a crowded group of guys looking at 2014 as well. Marshall, Gonzalez, Goodson, Parkhurst, and Orozco are looking at 2014.
Re: Zak Whitbread Watch Thread Marshall, Gonzalez, Orozco, Cameron & Onyewu will be his competition. I don't think Goodson or Parkhurst will figure much into the next cycle.
Re: Zak Whitbread Watch Thread And Cameron (DM) and Orozco (LB) may be playing different positions by the time 2014 rolls around.
Re: Zak Whitbread Watch Thread Zak had a loan move to Huddersfield fall through at the short term loan deadline: http://www.southlondonpress.co.uk/t... Whitbread move to Huddersfield falls through
Re: Zak Whitbread Watch Thread It's been posted by reliable sources on both Millwall and Leeds sites that a fee has been agreed for him to join Leeds in January. £160k, with extra upon promotion and sell on clauses. The person who has posted this on a Leeds forum is VERY reliable with transfer information.
Re: Zak Whitbread Watch Thread That's great news, if true. Looks like Leeds is starting to collect YA's. I'm sure Whitbread will fit right in next to Mike Grella and Bradley Johnson. And even better, Leeds just moved ten points clear of 3rd place, with a game in hand.
Re: Zak Whitbread Watch Thread Millwall want rid. High wages and wants to play at a higher level. Leeds want a defender to provide cover for a couple of likely leavers, Huntington and Rui Marques, and Richard Naylor who is always injured. Leeds will be at a higher level and are willing to pay what Millwall want.
