Shock defeat? Really? This isn't Stevenage (League 2) over Newcastle...They lost, but Leyton Orient is only one league below Norwich and Norwich was only promoted last year.
He played a half; apparently he was one of 3 CBs and came out as a tactical switch. Norwich lost 1-2.
Norwich City center back Leon Barnett out for the season http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/football/teams/n/norwich/9401640.stm It looks like Whitbread and fellow center back Elliot Ward will benefit, as they had been fighting back and forth for the starting spot beside Barnett since the beginning of January. Whitbread versus Lichaj on Saturday.
Norwich have picked up a CB from Blackpool on loan to help out until the end of the season. http://nz.sports.yahoo.com/football...p-for-blackpools-edwards-until-end-of-season/
Whitbread had a back spasm after falling, but it's not a serious issue. He's in the squad for tomorrow's match at Leicester.
WHITBREAD COMMITTED TO PROMOTION RUN Whitbread talks about his injury struggles, Norwich's promotion bid, and the US national team.
True to form, Norwich eschew 1 point for 3 as they score yet another late game-winning goal Must be at least the 10th time this year thats happened.
I remember how a few years ago he talked about being happy as a back-up in the EPL (then at Liverpool). He said that even a back-up can make $500k and that's a solid living. Zak may get his wish the next season. Although not with Liverpool.
I don't see why Norwich would sell him to a rival when they need him as a starter in the Premiership next season.
Don't remind me. I'm still smarting from that, like, 93rd minute goal Norwich scored against a 10-man Reading back in February. Sheesh.
Called up for the USMNT friendlies against Argentina and Paraguay. http://www.ussoccer.com/News/Mens-N...r-Roster-to-Prepare-for-March-Friendlies.aspx
Awesome. Zak has had such bad timing/luck with injuries. That season when Zak was leading Milwall on their eventually failed promotion push I thought he looked like a Premiership/USNational team caliber guy. Hopefully 2011 is the year it all turns around for him.
Been following this kid ever since he burst onto the scene for the 2003 U20 WC and Olympic Qualifying. I'm glad he's finally getting his opportunity with the full team. I was nervous when clicked on the ESPN Soccernet link to see the roster, but Bob didn't disappoint.
Finally got the video up of Zak's goal from yesterday. Guzan makes a complete mess of it: http://watchsocceronline.blogspot.com/2011/03/whitbread-scores-on-guzan-in-1-1-draw.html
He has withdrawn from the training camp and friendlies because of back problems http://www.ussoccer.com/News/Mens-National-Team/2011/03/Lichaj-Added-for-Argentina-Paraguay.aspx
Norwich getting a couple decent players on loan which should really assist with the push toward promotion. http://nz.sports.yahoo.com/football...go-for-loan-arrangement-with-premiership-duo/
Based on the highlights, Whitbread is really struggling lately. He's been made to look slow-footed on one goal after another.
He had to pull out of the US camp due to a nagging back injury. I can only assume that may have contributed to his recent form. I hope he turns it around as this is a crucial part of the season.
That's a huge result for them. The game was at Ipswich, I believe........... They must be close to clinching at least the playoffs. Actually they have, haven't they? They're ahead of 3 teams in 7th-9th by 14 points. Those teams have 4 games left, meaning the most they can get is 12. Am I right?
