This guy's name has come up from time to time and I may be getting closer to establishing him as another Yank in Denmark -- he is said to have an American father and a Danish mother. Apparently a defender born in 1983. He was with Hellerup IK this season: http://www.fremad-amager.as/nyhed.asp?id=686 http://www.eufo.de/football/den/2005/hellp_ik.htm He was a late sub at midfield in the club's last (I think) match against Lyngby: http://www.hik.dk/fodbold/elite-senesteKamp.asp And he is on the club's roster page: http://www.hik.dk/fodbold/elite-holdet.asp But he may have moved on (or be planning to), perhaps to Skjold. I'll see what else I can find.
The US is in fantastic shape to field an entire team of Yanks with extraordinary names by 2011 or so. (with/without Cheezy Meltz making the team)..
HIK are playing in the Danish 1st division (2nd level) also called the 'ViasatSport Divisionen' : http://www.footballworld.dk/table=2.php?season=2005&league=den2 .
Appears he played a game for Skjold on August 26. He even scored a goal. http://www.dr.dk/Regioner/Syd/Nyheder/Sport/2006/08/27/131031.htm Another article (Danish) on something from his old club, HIK. Couldn't a find translation, so my best guess is that he was released in January 2006. http://www.villabyerne.dk/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20060111/SPORT/101110011
A guy at Hellerup told me some months back that he was supposed to be signing with Skjold, but he doesn't show up on their roster page or in their more recent match reports... Not sure his whereabouts at the moment, but this is probably correct. Perhaps he's hurt or something.
Zadock McWere made an owngoal when Skjold from the Danish 2nd division lost 0-5 at home to Kolding FC (1st division) in the Danish Cup 3rd round 3 days ago... (Look at the bottom) : http://www.dr.dk/Sporten/Fodbold/2006/09/20/194721.htm .
The next Jeff Agoos? It's a shame, really, had that goal he scored in the Portugal match been at the other end, it would have been a candidate for best goal of the World Cup.
Own goals aside, McWere is definitely still at Skjold. He started in central defense in the club's Nov. 4 match, a 1-0 loss to Næsby.
Hmm. I'll try: GK: Nolly, Jay DEF: Cherundolo, Steve Onyewu, Oguchi McWere, Zadock Wynne, Marvell MID: Kljestan, Sasha Igwe, Amechi Nyguen, Lee Feilhaber, Benny FWD: Eskandarian, Alecko Jaqua, Nate
