Well, that's terrible. So much for the hope that this time off would give him a chance to fix whatever is wrong with his knee. Horvath really, really needs to make the right move this summer to get me feeling better about our GK situation.
This is Steffen's injury history over the past two years according to Transfermarkt: 19/20 - MCL (Knee) Injury on Apr 27, 2020 19/20 - Patella (Knee) problems from Jan 17 to Mar 29, 2020 (72 days+22 days recovering fitness) 18/19 - Foot Injury from May 11-22, 2019 (11 days) 18/19 - Knee Problems from Mar 17-29, 2019 (12 days) 17/18 - Knee Injury from Jun 21 to Jul 5, 2018 (14 days) What that doesn't mention is he was struggling with and playing through a knee injury in the last month or so before the Bundesliga's winter break.
That is fudged up. I was sitting here thinking how nice it will be to have all the YAs back healthy after a nice long forced rest and recuperation. It just baffles me.
Only our guys can suffer major knee injuries even during a complete soccer and economic lock down. Suck it Mexico!
GK used to be a USMNT strength... now it seems pretty thin... but with all of the injuries we have seen from our young prospects it becomes so clear that you have to have talent 3 or 4 deep at just about every position. I really like the youth movement we are seeing and feel pretty good about the future... especially our chances in 2026. But we need an infusion of talent at GK for sure. Steffen is looking like he is not the answer. All of these knee problems and at a position that doesn't require a ton of running.... just cutting. er... literally.
Well, so far we have someone who says to be ITK announcing to us the imminent move of Horvath to a top team week after week, there is hope.
https://www.si.com/soccer/mancheste...-talks-with-man-city-over-goalkeeper-transfer Latest has Fortuna looking for an extension... they mention a "inner ligament" issue.
Ask Coronavirus. Until this thing is sorted out, pro sports is going to have one hell of an amount of uncertainty going forward. In that context, a stable paycheque (his contract with Brugge) might look a bit more attractive than did in January.
I'm sure if he'd made a move, he'd be enjoying a stable paycheck at a similarly-situated club somewhere in Europe.
