I thought Zach deserved some recognition, not only for posting a clean sheet in front of a hostile crowd, but also for registering his first point of the year!

Zach was credited with an assist on Razov's "nail in the coffin goal" in extra time vs. DCU.

Does anyone know what Zach's career numbers are for points?

And that goal by Ante was even sweeter when you watch it on the replay. He only had the one touch on it and it was a goal.

That new keeper jersey is something else.

It's like the training fleece he wore in the Columbus game mated with a turtleneck sweater.

Abby, did you dream this up? ;)

I think zach deserves credit for doin what he does and getting a first half clean sheet against a seemingly worthless columbus team.

It just showed how good zach is (or how bad Spiteri is) after the that same "worthless" team scored 6 goals on spiteri in the second half.

This reminds me of the old NPSL days where when one team pulled their keeper, the other keeper could throw the ball all the way in the net.

Zach is an unsung (some of the time) hero for this team. Without a keeper of his quality the Fire would not be the team they are or have been in the last 6 years. Upon his retirement (hopefully a few years off at least) Zach gets my vote for the Ring of Fire (definetly in the first 10).

  8. Zach should be allowed to take PK if one comes up that's not important to the win. Get that man a goal!

Only when I put on my cape and do super things. Usually I am just a mild mannered reporter.

Man it would suck to be the keeper who would have to defend that PK. You know Zach isn't going to do anything fancy, he's just going to go right down the middle with power, and if you stand your ground you're going to be 6 feet under it soon enough.

  12. Speaking of Zach, here at MDSCHQ the Innnovation and Logistics Department has devised a new tie breaker format for regular season games.

No OT, no Shootouts - both goalies face off in a bare-knuckle boxing match. The goalie who remains conscious after 5 minutes or has accumulated the most points according to a panel of judges is awarded one point in the game and subsequently, the win.

In the event of a tie in the boxing match, Jim Curtin breaks Ruiz's leg, regardless of the teams involved.

Couldn't hurt. Don King's money spends the same in MLS as anyone else's.

While we're at it, maybe Coach can get him some free kick chances as well. We could promote him as the American Chilavert (maybe get him some of those cool-looking jerseys with the bulldog on it). Bruce Arena would be crazy to pass Zach up if he scores a few goals.

Worried about who mans the net during the free kicks? No problem, just send the other ten guys in front of Zach's net.
