http://skysports.planetfootball.com/article.asp?id=208351&cpid=21 I love the move for Mancini! Zacc was average a best to me and I think with the money INTER has to buy players Mancini could take this team to a title. What would you like to happen?
Personally I dont think we gave Zacc a chance at all when he had a full squad he preformed very well. Winning 6 in a row soon as he took the team then outperforming every other Serie A team at season's end. His only drawback was the mad dip he took in the middle of the season but you can hardly blame that on him. The squad was littered with injuries and suspensions. At one point we were leaving a whole A team on the medic table/ stands. Tell me anyone other team that had to suffer like us? Juve? no way they had half the injuries we did and performed far worse. Furthermore the indications given than Fachetti will leave troubles me. His short stint as pres proved that he was more than fully qualified and ready to deal with the media and all the squad problems as best he could. Which is more than we can say for Moratti. Moratti's iron grip on the team held Fachetti by the short and curlies and barely allowed him to breathe without his consent. He wanted consistency in the squad and management and this is the one thing Inter truly lack to become a championship team. They have the players, the skills, the money, and the coach(s) that can bring them glory yet we never are able to hold onto all this at the same time and keep it perfect balance. This is what seperates us from the rest of the great teams out there. Changing the coach will solve nothing because Mancini will be restricted by Moratti like every other coach (perhaps less because Moratti likes him). But the problem is the squad's attitude and confidence in themselves as well as their orginization that will keep us in the doledrums for a long time.
You make great points but I think Mancini is going to be one of the best coaches in the world once he hooks up with a team that will support him. He has won with most of his stars being sold away and still manages to keep them in Europe. CL last year and Uefa Cup this year. Reuniting Veron with Mancini, who were both at the club in Lazio's prime, I think only helps Veron on the pitch. Zacc, I have my doubts about. He didn't play that well against the big clubs but the effort seemed totally lacking against the teams we should have beaten. 0-1 to Emploli. Drawing with Modena. Drawing and losing to Brescia. Losing to Lecce 1-2. We lost both with Milan. We tied and lost against both Roma and Lazio. We split with Parma. We only really took out Juventus who played as you said worse than we did. 6 straight victories is great but not good enough. Yes we had injuries but the team underachieved. We have great players on the bench as well. I like the switch ..... better now than in the middle of next season when the team underachieves again. Also if Zacc had not beaten Juve the second time he wouldn't even be the coach right now.
This could be just a ploy to throw Juventus off the Vieri scent, block Juve from getting Vieri by keeping him at Inter Milan alittle longer and than sell him to someone outside Serie A? Or like see Vieri, "we got rid of the dreaded Zaccheroni, your buddy and pal..snicker". Mancinin and Vieri are friends, maybe Inter Milan REALLY want to keep Vieri? Who knows? It is still waaaay too early in the off season.
I think it was said well earlier that the they have suffered in recent years from poor attitudes and a lack of organization. While the tone at the top may ultimately to be blamed for this, the easier fix is to change out the manager. It's good to see some new blood on the sidelines, as It seems that the big boys in Serie A recycle coaches to a similar degree as they do in the NBA. Manccini seems to be a players coach, and while that may be the kiss of death in many circles, perhaps it's just what the doctor ordered for a squad with Inter's personality. Let's also hope that Veron can get back his form and relieve Inter's greatest on the pitch liability, lack of creativity in the middle. With Kaka, Nedved and Totti driving the bus for Inter's main title rivals, they need to find an answer to their often ponderous play.
Big Inter Management meeting tomorrow. Financial terms will be explained and Branca will know exactly how much cash he has to spend on players. The other big news being reported is that Zac has resigned so that he can coach Fiorentina and Inter will announce the signing of Mancini as the new head coach. Along with him the aquisition of Cesar will come in the following days. All this and Fachetti has accepted it and is willing to continue as President. Pretty big moves by Inter but it is about time if you ask me. Inter are famous for their off season movements and only the signing of Veron was considered a big move this summer. Lets see if this news leak is legit or not but the fact is Inter are really having a management meeting tomorrow and the rest of the off season movements will be based on the results of this meeting. Its kind too bad Fachetti let himself drop to Moratti's whim of getting Mancini. Lets see what he can finally do with a big squad to handle. Remember the only thing he won with Lazio was the Coppa last year but then again Lazio's financial predicament really put him at a disadvantage. No such problem with Inter so he better produce or make way for the next guy .
I think Mancini got the most out of the players he did have and he developed the younger players quite nicely at Lazio. Also great quote above.....this has been a problem for some time and I hope Veron can return to his old Serie A self.
Zacc is gone it's official even on the Inter website. So sad they only had like a two sentence thing about his resignation. I felt he did a lot for us and deserved a little more recognition from the Inter management especially. Now its only a matter of time (maybe hours) before Mancini is appointed.
What a class act Inter Milan and Moratti are? It really upsets me when teams dump a manager after going thru so many emotional wins and loses like they are just refuse. Fine, you don't want him as your manager anymore, but at least be a class act about it by saying we are making a change, but thank you very much for your efforts and contribution to our club.
The rumours in the Italian media are that there are other reasons why Moratti wanted Mancini at Inter. Some newspapers reported that Moratti`s family (and maybe even Ghelfi`s) have a considerable shareholding in Banco Capitalia....the bank which covers all the debts of Roma, Lazio, Inter, Parma, Perugia and Napoli. Now, during the famous wage cut exercise by the players last summer, Mancini instead got a very hefty wage increase...but now that the team could not guarantee a high technical level, pressure was being made by the Capitalia directors so that Lazio frees itself of Mancini`s wage packet and find a cheaper coach instead....and hence with Moratti being involved in Capitalia and Inter, the solution was to put pressure on Moratti to take Mancio with him....not that Moratti needed much convincing given that he had been following Mancini since the early days. Most probably, as a compensation Inter will give Lazio Kily and Cruz....which means that the "conflict of interest" which nobody mentions will take its role by giving Lazio two players for free as a compensation when you are practically taking their wage burden by employing Mancini..... The "good deal" is also bound to continue with Inter also taking Mihajlovic (and his wage packet) as well....as if Inter need the player !
thats some good insight there Dante, I'd be glad to take Cruz and less than thrilled with Kily but we'll take as many players as possible without transfer fees....taking Miha is a bonus for lazio. a conspiracy in italian soccer, par for the course...
You may get Cruz especially if you lose Corraddi to Milan. Pretty likely since Lazio are looking pretty desperate at the moment. Kily however I doubt he was pretty decent all season botched so many scoring chances but he played some goos soccer and Mancini plays wing players VDM and Kily will be instrumental in reviving our team. The only way I see Kily leaving is if we get Ceaser in return. Again a likely move and Caesar is better than Kily.
They can take Cruz and Kily! We have Mancini and thats more than fair to me. If we can get Nico Burdisso from Boca that will help our defence, now we just need some more midfielders. Someone who can create chances!
I'm 99% sure that BOTH Kily and "El Jardinero" Cruz were part of the Mancini deal package. Cruz was playing stupendously, when Inter was playing horriblyu. Then Zac came in and froze him out, and Adriano became our biggest performer up front. Kily has dissapointed me all along as an Inter fan, ever since he came from Valencia. Anyone else share this thought on Kily?
You got that right he has had plenty of chances to score clutch goals open shots from slightly outside and inside the box as well as chances from the six yard box. He has been pretty bad for long stretches and never reallly reached expectations but with Mancini who uses a 4-4-2 system Kily as well as VDM would fit in perfectly. Getting rid of Kily would be a big mistake if we dont intend on replacing him with a better player. By the way is anyone wondering where Mancini is I mean Zacc was gone 2 weeks ago this signing is taking too long. He has not spoken for or against the move but neither Inter nor Lazio seem to be making any significant progress.
Cruz and Kily are still under Inter's squad in their official website. In regards to us possibly getting someone "better" than Kily, Cesar has been of interest to Inter all along. He plays more as a wing back or as a full back even, but he plays wide (close to the line) at any rate. IDK if Inter have made official inquiries about him. Is it also true we got Mihajlovic?
Cesar is certainly better than Kily out wide on the left...And Miha is supposed to follow Mancini to Inter on a free, and rumored a few weeks ago was Materazzi free to Lazio to play for Zoff if he's appointed.
Lazio has not released him from his contract - they are still saying "Mancini is our coach". http://it.sports.yahoo.com/040628/2/1u78.html Nothing money won't fix, I imagine.
oops, mixing my baseball and soccer here...I better learn Julio Cruz's name, he may end up the best friggin player on my team..
This huge transfer of Corraddi and Fiore to Valencia has almost certainly sealed Mancini's move to Inter. I mean he has had almost his entire starting eleven ripped apart. Just this year they have had: Stam Stankovic Fiore Corradi Favalli Cesar (possibly) Inzaghi (possibly) This is half of the definite starting eleven at Lazio I really can't see Mancini staying to coach a skeleton of the team he had last season with only the likes of Lopez and Peruzzi being the only true champions left. This move sort of reassures me of the move is on the cards in the next few days (hopefully this week training starts next week). Although I feel kind of feel bad for Lazio and their fans. I would mourn for a long time should these sort of events take place at Inter. I have hated Lazio for a long time but all I feel now is pity for their situation. At lest perhaps now you will have the cash to resolve your problems as well as some players from us (Mancini deal). Plus hey the players coming form Inter aren't all that bad just look at Pirlo, Seedorf, Ferrari, etc..... the list is too long to go on
Finally Lazio let Mancini go. He has been released from his contract which is big news. Furthermore Inter and Lazio have patched up their relationship. Which is always nice, better to have a friend rather than an enemy in football. Now its only a matter of days before Mancini is presented after all he has already agreed to personal terms with us. Now lets just see what he can accomplish with the squad. The squad size has ballooned beyon proportions and needs to be trimmed badly. I think we have something like 35 bodies on the roster. This needs to betrimmed to 27 max. I am pretty sure though that after checking the Inter squad list that Gammarra, Helveg, and Almeyda have been released. I only regret Almeyda but the signing of Cambiosso (who looks to be pretty eager to prove himself by reading his interview on the official website) makes up for this. I think we need to rid ourselves of one more defensman though. It has to come down to either Matterazzi or Cordoba. I would like to keep Canna and the emminent signing of Burdisso form Boca is a big step in the right direction. I also think Adani is on his way out. In midfield Almeyda is already gone but Lamouchi is sure to join him. Farinos may also be an option to unload if the reports about Davids are true. The attack is huge and one or both of Kallon and Cruz need to go. I would prefer Cruz but there seems to be more interest in Kallon at the moment. I am hoping Mancini will be given the freedom to make some important choices for Inter. If Morratti really does love him as much as is said then this should not really be a probelm. I am sure Mancini already has some priorities set as he has had much time to think about the squad during the off season.
Well I think Cruz was part of the deal that would bring Mancini to us. If that's no longer the case then IDK. During midweek it was reported Kallon was set to join Shaktar Donetsk (Ukraine) on loan...They wanted to have a very competitive squad for this year, and they had already signed Matuzalem and they were also looking to bring in Emre, from Inter.
It is finally official and on Inter's website. He has signed a contract through 2007. No word yet on the other terms of the deal, compensation for Lazio, etc: http://www.inter.it/aas/news/reader?N=14578&L=en
