Defensive lapse aside, that all rich video shows an incredible talent. His upside is absurd.

did he have any other defensive issues?

Kid had a nice wow moment where he blew by the RM left back and laid off a beautiful ball to a teammate that should have been a goal. Kid looks like a powerful runner when he has his legs beneath him. He also looked like he had zero fear to go at the mighty RM players.

Head scratcher in terms of his issues defending late in the game, but clearly the kid has some chops.

this is all very very silly. You guys realize he hadn't played this many minutes in weeks? He was burned out.

I agree with Bruce. Looked like he had about 60 minutes in him (hello pre-season injury) and that last little stretch he faded. We'll see where he's at in a couple weeks. If he can lockdown a starting role, that would be huge for him.

Just par for the course around these parts. The expectations can be laughable at times.

Did any of you guys who are saying we are overreacting actually watch the match? I did and he was really bad in the final 20-25 minutes. Prior to that he was OK. But just OK. Nothing great. Overall it was a bad day for him. He's lucky Jose Mourinho is not his manager. But then, everyone is kinda lucky when Mourinho is not their manager.

All this tut-tutting from people who clearly didn't see the match or haven't been following him. Like I said before, this isn't just this game, it has happened repeatedly in the past. It has been noted by others, not just in this thread. If he becomes a complete player, the sky is the limit. What is wrong with observing an aspect of a player's game that could improve?

100% right, did the "lapses" occurr in the first period when he had fresh legs ? he's not match fit for 90 min. YET

Will you, Bruce S, glutton4bolts, or AngelaMerken please address the point that this is not the first time he has exhibited a lack of defensive intensity? That it has been noted several times by several observers both inside this thread and outside this website? Does lack of fitness explain every such instance?

All players have upsides and downsides. All coaches and fans weight those attributes differently. Lots of people see a big net positive with Musah. I personally haven’t seen a pattern re defensive effort, but iIt was reported that
he had some head struggles end of last season. This YA, and the USMNT DESPERATELY needs a midfielder who can progress the attack. Musah isn’t afraid to stick in. He’s strong and quick. But mostly he can connect with the front line (when under Top 5 league pressure) better than any YA midfielder — in my opinion.

So far, looks good on the dribble as we've seen in the past. Dribbled into trouble a few times, but also won some fouls. Hasn't done much passing the ball.

He still looks extremely one-footed to me. One sequence, he had some nice movement at the top of the box to find some space in the left channel, received a pass which he turned and let run toward the endline. Oddly, it looked like a simple left-footed cross, but he cut it back to his right foot and the defense caught up. So far, he's making Pulisic's left foot look like Roberto Carlos. Something to keep an eye on.

Glad to get the every touch from this poster, but would love for him to step up his video quality (1st world problems i know)...

And if you think Musah ever uses his left foot, watch the sequence at the 47 second mark. Pretty funny, imo. Bro, just hit the pass with the left foot. Ha.

That's the play I was talking about. I thought seeing the replay would yield some clues, but nope, he just apparently has no left foot.

Yeah, that lack of a left foot may explain Gregg's hesitance to play him in important games and his club's hesitance to play him anywhere except on the right side of midfield.

A really positive sign that he is chosen to start. Obviously he has made a good enough impression over these past two sub appearances (and in training) to warrant it.

There is FAR too much diving and play-acting in this game. The dramaturgy is making this hard to watch.

Musah's day is done. I only saw the second half. He had a couple of decent crosses but otherwise not very involved. His defending seems pretty poor to me, both his positioning and occasional lack of effort. Was he better in the first half?

He was decent in the 1st half, but nothing earth-shattering. He did take a nice near-post shot that was saved well (but may have been going just wide). He is a strong and skilled player, but he needs to find a way to up his impact. Still 18 or 19 though, so he is learning.

Musah was slightly better in the 1st half. What I noticed and continue to notice is that he’s not active enough off the ball with his movements. When he is on the ball he’s effective and usually looking to play it forward. Musah’s lack of movement is frustrating to me either way. I could chalk it up to being stuck on the wing and that’s not his forte. Average game form Musah. Nothing more. Nothing less. Thankfully Valencia grabbed a late equalizer for a 1-1 draw being a man down.
