Except assists. Once he gets the decision making nearer goal down he will be great. If he doesn't he will be what he is now, a useful player but one who almost never shows up on the score sheet with assists or goals.
Of course you are well aware that is not at all a valid statistic in implication. Pulisic is up top, Musah is passing in defense mostly. BTW, Trusty recently had a game where he was at like 95% passing accuracy. Is he the new #10?
What I replied to is above Musah's numbers are pretty close to the other central mids at Milan. So I am not sure why you think he can't complete a pass.
He tends to pass the ball now to where players ought to be rather than where they are. So yeah, he has a ways to go. But I think he looks better as a wide player than he does as a central player at the moment. And he is currently the best right wing option at Milan when Pulisic is playing centrally. He deserves credit for that.
I like players who pass where players should be. Meaning where they will be once the ball gets there. To me Musah passes a bit behind them when they're around the box. Or too far in front. I think it's just a relaxation problem and he needs the game to slow down a bit. He may also have his head down but I haven't really paid attention to that.
One thing I'll add is that he is a plus defender playing wide, whereas he is not exactly known for his positioning and anticipation while defending in the middle of the pitch. His wide defense is why he is currently playing winger for Milan.
Wingback is the most appropriate slot for a two way player that is not great at either but very good at both. With work I think he could become an excellent right back. Still not sure his decision making will improve enough to be a great winger or attacking mid.
What the heck does it mean to be great? If he's starting at right wing for AC Milan, that seem like a helluva great situation.
because I have watched him a lot. His passing is pretty poor. Now, I want to add that I like him as a player but this is a big weakness.
Played the full second half. Musah (6): He did well in the ‘Fofana role’ with some good movement and passing. Nothing spectacular, of course, but certainly decent.
It's really not. But since he has a rep for it I'm sure you notice every bad pass. His issue has never been his inability to pass. His issue at times has been the over reliance on the dribble and not passing the ball early enough. But that seems to be improving this season as his manager has demanded.
I thought dudes comment was funny. Stats don't often tell the whole story. I don't know of any team in the world that wouldn't be thrilled with Pulisic's completion rate considering what has been produced in that 78.5%. Musah tends to make ridiculous passes as evidenced today. He does make that regular WTF pass that produces danger for opposing teams. He hasn't made many of those as of late, and I wonder is it because of how Fonseca has been deploying him? As of late his passes also are not usually of the goal producing/force the issue variety. More of get the ball to the guys who can do the business type, or simply recycle it to somebody who has a pass to one of those guys. I say this as a guy who is a huge fan of Yunus and think he has worlds of upside if he can just get the final ball thing sorted.
AC Milan head coach Paulo Fonseca has confirmed that Yunus Musah will start against Atalanta, previewing a tactically challenging game in Bergamo. https://sempremilan.com/fonseca-atalanta-musah-leao-serie-a-difficulty Fonseca's comments about Serie A are great - a selection ... Do you define yourself as a modern, innovative coach who knows how to surprise? How are you fitting into this reality in Italy? “I don’t like to talk about myself. You have to talk about me. What I can say is that I feel very very good in Italy, it’s very stimulating for a foreign coach. Here it’s different, it’s more stimulating to be here and find a different way of seeing things. “Serie A is clearly different for me. In the past few days I was talking to my staff and I was saying that only by being here can you understand how different it is. Coaches who aren’t here don’t have the exact idea of what Serie A is like and what it brings to a coach. “Winning here is very very difficult. The big European teams now have the chance to face Italian teams. Let’s look at the results. How are they doing? So think about facing Italian teams every week. It’s difficult.” What’s so difficult? “The way many teams defend here is different. I’m 100% sure that facing a team that plays man-to-man is more difficult than facing a team that plays zonal. “Then there’s the physicality, the way of defending. Finding space here in Italy is not easy. If you talk about intensity, England is more intense but here it’s different.” Is tomorrow’s match the most tactically difficult for Milan this season? Do you plan to use Musah on the right again? “Yes, Musah will play tomorrow. I think we have prepared well for the match. The match will be tactical. It is very easy to understand how Atalanta plays. It is easy to say that they do this, this and this. “But it is difficult to counter them, because they do it very well. Offensively and defensively. But I think we are prepared to play against Atalanta.” ... and ... Pep Guardiola said that facing Atalanta is like going to the dentist… “I understand perfectly what Pep said. It’s really a game of sacrifice, commitment, attitude. He says that because maybe he goes to the dentist once a year. But here (in Italy) I go to the dentist every week, it’s normal. Empoli, maybe they have different quality, but the way they play is the same.”
It was a typical grey area "tackle/steal". I watch way too much soccer and more times than not that is called a foul. I don't think the D player even touched the ball and basically pushes/kicks from behind, That being said, Musah needs to understand the situation and where he is on the pitch. The ref won't always call the foul... sometimes they expect the player with the ball to be stronger.
Truth be told, it was a horrible play by Musah. He had Leao open for a pass up-field. In 2021& 2022, he was on the cusp of breaking-out big-time, but he has not progressed much since. Dare i say, he would better off at this point heading back to England and playing Supporting Striker? He looks like somebody who needs to be let loose & get his confidence back.
