Yunus is definitely on the outside looking in. And it may be with binoculars. He looked so promising at 19/20 in the lead up to 2022 and at the WC, but he's stagnated at the least.
Musah scores! Musah came off the bench in the Coppa Italia semifinals, Atalanta visiting Lazio, entering at 64' with the score 1-1. Lazio went ahead late, but a few minutes later, Musah knotted the scored at 2-2 - the final score of today's first leg. The second leg will apparently be played many weeks from now, at Atalanta on April 22.

Yunus vs Lazio (cup) Came in around 64' tied 1-1. Played deep CM role, like a 6 but as I was educated by the announcer, they play a pretty strict man on man D style. Which was strange to watch to be honest. I was wondering why he was pulled out of position and not helping out and closing passing zones. He looked lost defensively until I realized he was just roaming with his man. Anywho.. immediately does his patented half turn in his own half under pressure, lots of hip shake movement to pause the defender and give himself more angles. Fun to watch but man one slip (and he did once) and that ball is turned over in his final third. Love the willingness to try to turn and do stuff with it, rarely passes directly back when receiving. Got tossed one play where he tracked his runner to the end line but was shoved aside easily. Other than that really no defensive moments to speak of. The goal was a beauty, just hanging at the top of the box while the ball is being pinged around deep in Lazio box.. really nice pass to his space and Yunus takes it really well. Not an easy shot, came across his body and has to swipe at it to keep it low and get power. Really nice goal. Overall.. he did fine. Has such a fun style and good to see him score a big goal like that.
Good time to find a bit of form and make a late push for the WC roster. Guy is clearly a talent and he’s been great for the usmnt at times in the past.
I don't think I've seen anyone write him off. It seems like the bulk of posts have expressed disappointment that his career has stagnated for the last 3 years.
It’s great to finally see some production from Musah. It certainly is a bid to make him relevant in the USMNT conversation, but our midfield is crowded with players performing at big name teams. Maybe he can get invited to camp and take advantage of his opportunity, but it’s pretty late. This is definitely great news for his career at Atalanta though. He’s still really young.
Hardly any teams play strictly man to man and that might easily explain the lack of minutes adjusting. Good to see him finally scoring but it would take more than two in a two for him to move ahead of others for me. If he keeps doing it and it appears a light bulb finally went off I'll change my mind.
Five matches left to establish a new narrative ... Sat Mar 7 v Udinese (#10) Tue Mar 10 v Bayern Munich [Champions League] Sat Mar 14 @ Inter Milan (#1) Wed Mar 18 @ Bayern Munich [Champions League] Sun Mar 22 v Verona (#20) The middle three matches are big-time matches - perfect for our purposes.
Musah’s current run of form is great to see, especially with it coming during Ramadan. A lot of players naturally dip a bit because of the physical demands and discipline the month requires, so performing at a high level right now really highlights his resilience and focus. Hopefully this stretch helps strengthen the trust he’s building with Palladino and earns him an even more consistent role in the squad.
whats the conversion rate on serie a goals to MLS goals these days? it definitely aint 1 to 1, I'll tell you that
Ha! The important thing is that Yunus saw where he was going from there. And hopefully, he keeps seeing where he is going from here on out!
