Z is for Zoot Sims. Is this actually called "Knew How to Swing?" I dunno-- I'm actually using the "Z" to smuggle in this look at the nature and character of Oscar Petersen-- is this a guy you want to come to your backyard BBQ and pool party, or what? And bring Roy if you can, too.
D is for my current song obsession: Tom Waits singing "Downtown Train." "Downtown Train" was covered by many people, and became a hit for Rod Stewart, but Waits wrote it. And while much of Waits' music is interesting and clever and technically challenging, I don't find much of it beautiful (not just because of his gravely vocals but the arrangements too). I find "Downtown Train" beautiful.
Not easy to express how much i dislike pretty much all Tom Waits-- except "Rain Dogs" which is on my 100 greatest albums list. I attribute this ranking to Keith Richards' impact...
Boy, that's about as poorly synched as anything I ever saw. Kinda fun to see the young Lowell Levinger, though. (Banana.) I wonder if that actually is Joe Bauer, or a temp on drums... doesn't look like Joe's sort of fashion statement.
Almost missed this anniversary, and this doesn't seen the year for it... Nanci Griffith-- The Loving Kind. Pete and Maura Kennedy supporting.
I have probably posted this before, just because it's my favorite comedy bit. But that must have been 50+ pages ago. Pachelbel's Rant --Rob Paravonian
