I think Hyndman and Zelalem are pretty similar, which was kind of an issue during the U20 WC. Hyndman is probably a little better towards goal and Gedion a little better circulator, but overall fairly similar.

And also in a similar situation where they need to play 1st team minutes. Watching the EPL promotion match and sighing that Emerson left Fulham for Bournemouth. Fulham was a good situation for him.

    The article says signed.

I didn't see any claim it says bought.

Setting aside that we have little or no idea what kind of player Zelalem will be if/should he ever be able to compete a high adult professional level again, I never thought he was a great fit for the U.S. teams he was a part of. His game is made for teams that let the ball circulate and use a lot of orchestrated, multi-player movement -- if all he does is connect lines A and B, he's wasted unless, perhaps, he's also providing a lot of value on defense.

The part of the Nagbe comparison that makes sense is the part where he can be a release valve; Nagbe had/has flaws, certainly, but his ability to receive and get free let the U.S off the hook lots of times. If Zelalem can't expect to occasionally get the ball back after he gives it up, I'm not sure he's the best option out there. A shallow comparison could be with players like Carleton or Freddy, who are/were home-run passers. That doesn't really seem to be Zelalem's game.

Jesus, the burst he showed to get past the first defender and the balance he showed to not completely fall down when he juked the second one are really impressive.

See no reason not to call him in for the 20s. I mean, hell, two 18-year olds just scored for the senior team. Why not an almost 17-year old for the U20 team?

Indeed. And I believe there is a U20 camp coming up in July. Do it, Tab!

Yeah, why not? It will be a challenge to play up a U20 cycle, but Ramos has already called in Uly Llanez, also a '01.

'01 defensive all-arounder. Started for Leipzig's U-17's this season, and even was on the U-19 bench once.

He's now 18, so he should be eligible to sign in a country like Germany, Netherlands, Portugal, Belgium, etc. I thought his play stagnated in the second year of the U-17 cycle, and that he was fairly left off the U-17 WC team, but he's not without talent.
