This is just a guess but I suspect some people soured on Kayo as a U.S. U17 because too many of his ideas just weren't coming off. He'd see a play and then, for whatever reason -- technique, imprecision, timing, etc. -- it just wouldn't work. Now, at this level, we're seeing that while he's still not perfect, he is seeing good plays (beyond the safe/simple ones) and pulling them off at a higher rate. And some of his "misses" are still good, difficult, ideas worth trying, like the play that starts at 0:10 in the video above. Seems like a good trendline.
Honestly for the u17’s he was one of our best players when he actually got good playing time. His performance in the u17 qualifiers almost pushed Busio out of the lineup. Then that was followed up by him playing only 20 minutes at the u17 WC which I never understood.
These highlight videos are a little tough to judge. They don't always concentrate on what a player is doing when the player doesn't have the ball or isn't making a big impact in the play. I find that Kayo is the type of player that misses a lot of the little details, especially on the defensive side of the game. This type of video won't show those problems. Offensively, I don't see a lot different than what I previously saw. Drives forward great with the ball, good in the physical challenges, can combine in midfield. Lacks a good first touch, and decision making isn't particularly good. I was trying to figure out why Kayo is in the U-23's and KHF in the U-19's, and I think the reason must be Kayo's athleticism. What does he really gain playing with kids? Put him with a pro team, and see how he develops. It shouldn't mean he's better than players in the U-19's. You need to see what you have in the player, and putting him in the U-19's gives you a worse idea of that than U-23's. I'm still not convinced by Kayo. I think if you put him in the Wolfsburg first team playing Bundesliga games eventually, you'll see a player who struggles. Fourth Tier of Germany is a step up physically from academy games, but Bundesliga is an even bigger step up. Kayo's athleticism might be good at the Bundesliga level, but is it good enough that it can carry some huge deficiencies in his game elsewhere? I don't think it will. I still don't think he cuts it at the top level, but the athleticism will give him more of a chance than he'd otherwise get, and good athleticism has been a big theme between all our players who've made it in Europe. He can also still improve in other areas of his game. I don't buy into his game, but I'm open to the idea that I may eventually be wrong.
US U20 Leon Flach scored his first goal for FC St. Pauli II. He also recently made his 2. Bundesliga debut for the first team. One of many Europe-based US prospects to pay attention to. https://t.co/edY4vFVnmZ— ChuckMe92 Soccer (@ChuckMe92Soccer) October 11, 2020 Thanks to @OverseasYanks for spotting '03 Isaac Garbia with Hellerup IK in Denmark. What I would add is that it does not entirely matter why he is in a certain age group. If he performa well then that’s about all he or anyone can ask him to do. We tend to make a lot of educated guesses based on almost zero first hand knowledge and outdated visual evidence (some more than others). I cant day whether he makes the leap to the 1st team but he has the right platform to try and make his case.
It looks like U.S. U-20 forward Charlie Kelman will be a member of QPR soon. @CJPhillips1982 has been on this story the entire time. Jannick Libburd (‘01) is a US eligible winger playing for the same team in Denmark as Haji Wright (I won’t bother trying to spell the team name). Libburd has two career first team appearances, and is eligible for four countries (USA, Denmark, St. Kitts, England), but hasn’t been capped by any of the four countries.
This guy is a very knowledgeable account for La Masia takes. Yes it's true. Fantastic technique, vision of the game, he is good tactically, has a good body balance and a very good long shot. One of my favourite.— Piotr Guziński (@Nyctophile1_) October 16, 2020

I’ve seen all the comments on Twitter and I can add that here in San Diego exactly zero people believe miles is truly an 05. He’s adopted and while birth certificate *look* legit (and it was asked for a lot on younger days) it’s pretty well assumed he’s not an 05. He’s always been so much bigger and stronger and faster than everyone else that he’s been so dominant. As that evens out who knows how he will do. The actual birth age doesn’t really matter anymore and he’s a good kid and player so wish him well whether he’s actually an 05 or whatever.

Missed this days ago. And just to add, I also suspect that a homegrown offer from #RBNY is a possibility as well. Obviously, given its history, RBNY is certainly not a bad place for top young Americans to start— Brian Sciaretta (@BrianSciaretta) October 14, 2020 As of now, the German team isn't Leipzig. For me, it's not necessarily about age. Get 2 full seasons here and play well, doors are wide open for a move after that to bypass U-19, U-23, reserve games and get into the first team somewhere— Brian Sciaretta (@BrianSciaretta) October 14, 2020
i disagree somewhat that it’s not about age. we have not seen much if any interest for mls u23s vs say u20s. the market just isn’t there.
