Um, no. First off, if you named the better college soccer coaches of the past six years, there'd be a lot of names ahead of Bolowich. Second, the guy's success is as much a by-product of his environment then anything he's done. He coaches at a good school on a beautiful campus with great facilities in an excellent conference with a strong recruiting base. With all that, it would be hard NOT to succeed. Look at all the talent that he's had since taking over in 1988 - Eddie Pope, Gregg Berhalter, Kerry Zavagnin, Eddie Robinson, Carey Talley, Marco Feruzzi, Chad Ashton, Logan Pause, Chris Leitch, Temoc Suarez, Tim Sahaydak, Chris Carrieri, David Testo, David Stokes, Matt Crawford, Dax McCarrty, Michael Harrington, Jamie Watson Corey Ashe, Marcus Storey - all those guys played in MLS except for Berhalter, whose been in Europe for 13 years and made two WC teams. Despite all that talent, Bolowich has been to only one Final Four and only won the ACC Tournament once. The LAST thing the Fire need is a coach who doesn't know how to win with a talented roster. Bolowich is very tactically limited, which is why, despite all the talent he's had at Chapel Hill, he hasn't had more success on the field. I mean, since winning the NCAA title in 01 - and he deserves his due for doing that - he's done nothing to build on the success of winning it all. In the five seasons since winning the NCAA title in 01, UNC has only gotten past the second round of the NCAAs once, making the QFs in 05. In that time, they 3-4-1 in the NCAA Tournament, getting two byes and losing in PKs after the tie. Again, is that the kind of a record that screams a college coach will be successful in MLS? Compare that with the two college coaches who jumped straight from the college ranks to being MLS head coaches, Bruce Arena and Sigi Schmid. Arena won 5 NCAA titles in 18 years, Schmid 3 in 19 and both also went to several other Final Fours. I don't think college soccer is the answer for the Fire's next coach but if for some reason that's the direction they want to go, they can do MUCH better than Elmar Bolowich.
5) A freshly baked loaf of BIMBO bread 4) an inanimate plastic owl 3) Sparkey 2) a wooden spoon 1) Elvis Presleys' Jacket I have tried in the past to encourage Dave to get in the refs face, (to get him tossed out) but he won't do it. I think he's afraid we'll win without him....and he's right.
5. Chico 4. Harpo 3. Groucho 2. Zeppo 1. " ... the lucky fan sitting in section 117, row 14, seat ... 9!" Attendance would skyrocket.
1. Pato Margetic, did a decent job coaching indoor one of the great talents to play here. 2. Willie Roy did a great job with the Sting...has just a little coaching experience. 3. Tab Ramos 4. Ricardo Lavolpe, talk about adding spice and popularity in the hispanic community 5.Tomas Boy same as above. Or someone else outside the box tired of the same names. Notice the Latin Flair with most my Pics, The 7 defensive minded players on the field doesnt cut it with me.Especially when they still allow 6 goals in 2 games and 3 alone from an expansion team
Chris Coleman is the obvious choice. He seems to like developing Americans. Just think what he'd do with so many. And it would almost assure us of getting Brian McBride to end his career back closer to home.
I had I PINCH on there, but the Zack Attack episode of Saved By the Bell was on and someone had to go...I mean, it's Zack Morris!
I'm saving him for the USMNT for the same reason in case Gulati gets pressured into going the Euroroute instead of Bradley.
The one potential candidate that I liked is off the market. Bob to get the nats gig full time: http://soccernet.espn.go.com/news/story?id=430446&cc=5901 I assume that takes Nowak off the market as well.
I think if Dave get's fired in mid season they should give it to Dennis for the remainder of the season to see how he does. I think he deserves a chance to run the team. Someone else mentioned him, but I also think that Brett Hall would be a good choice. But he probably wouldn't be available till after the WWC.
We should hurry up. I just heard that Chris Coleman is most likely going to Sheffield United. I guess we know now where DaMarcus Beasley is going.
