I am an avid reader of Four Four Two an English publication that has at the end each month has a major soccer peronality name the 11 players they would field for the dream team in their minds no limit to the time frame and you can have one sub as well so that totals 12 players one for every spot on the pitch and the sub bench. My only rules for this are you have to put the players in their position(ex.don't have Ronaldo playing center mid just because you want him but have two other forwards selected), and name your formation as well. I would play a modified 4-4-2 with one back playinfgfg a deeper sweeper type role and then have a diamond in the midfeild with an attacking then defensive center mid with outside wingers. the two forwards would have normal responsibilites. Goalkeeper-Peter Schmical- (Denmark/Man City) was the best Man U keeper ever. Sweeper-Rio Ferdinand-(England/Man U) Great size and passing ability, good foot skills for a guy his size. Leftback-Roberto Carlos-(Brasil/Real Madrid)-Could play anyplace on the feild, cannon of a left foot speaks for itself, as well as over looked passing ability and man marking skills. Centerback-Alessandro Nesta-(Italy/AC Milan)-Defends like a pitbull, tackles are second to none and passing is first rate. Rightback-Palo Maldini-(Italy/AC Milan)-In his prime was the best defender in the world and still is one of the top three in my book. Defensive Center Mid-Roy Keane-(Ireland/Man U)- One of my persoanl favorites, can do it all, run, pass, shoot, head, tackle. Leadership is second to none on field expects more from himself than those around him a true captian. Left Mid-Edgar Davids-(Holland/Juventus)-One man wrecking crew in the midfeild called "the pitbull" with good reason, can do it all unmatched ball skills tackling ability and a cannon shot. Right Mid-Patrick Veria-(France/Arsenal)-Great all around skills and knows how to get stuck in, dangrous eye for goal as well. Attacking Center Mid-Zinedine Zidane(France/Real Madrid)-The most creative and skilled player in the World for my money, can do it all with both feet and come up with huge goals in huge matches, passing is unmatched and ball skills are among the top in the game today. Left Forward-Jurgen Klinsmann-(Gremany/Retired)- My favorite forward ever everthing he touched was textbook, scored everything from the simple to the breath taking could change a match in the blink of an eye and was high among the goals every place he played,The most dangerous player with in 25 yards of the goal I have ever watched. Right Forward-Ronaldo-(Brasil/Real Madrid)-Had his injury problems but when fit he can score from anywherre in the field, perfect complement to Klinsmann's in the box style, with his direct running and ball skills outside the area. Sub-Rivaldo-(Brasil/AC Milan)-Amazing player, a bit on the slower side but his ball skills more than cover up for it, great finisher and supurb passing skills, only weakness is the fact his right foot/leg serve only as a kick stand for his world beater of a left. Can play in the midfeild or as a true froward
Just saw him play about three weeks ago in person. He's helping out the LA Galaxy reserve team and they're in our sunday league. For the first 25 minutes he didn't touch the ball once. He just kept opening up space the the younger guys and they were all out of sinc with him. He was just moving around, jogging, looked like he knew what he was doing, everybody else was dribbling too much and sprinting, making awkward runs. It was really interesting. I left after 25 minutes so i don't know if he ever touched the ball at all.
Heres mine, pretty, simple, but it works i suppose. My favorite formation would be a 4-4-2 with to centre halves and two 'attacking' fullbacks in defense; defending 'destroyer' mid, attacking mid (play-maker), and two wingers; in attack I would have one striker who would be large and try to score with aerial prowess and a quick, strong finisher. Goalkeeper-Oliver Kahn (Germany/Bayern Munchen)-Two words.. 'Usa vs. Germany' (well three sorta). One of the best shot-stoppers on the planet. Left back-Roberto Carlos (Brazil/Real Madrid)-Defender with the skills of a midfielder. Great free kicks and control keeper his goal and assists stats high. Right back-Tony Sanneh (USA/Nurnburg)-Not the most famous defender in the world, but as he showed in WC2002, can clean house, at least for the national team. Centre back-Rio Ferdinand (England/Manchester Utd.)-Large and in charge, is a very imposing force when he is on. He proved this in WC2002, but has yet to prove worth $30 + million for Man Utd. Centre back-Walter Samuel (Argentina/Roma)-Strong centre half who makes his aerial presense felt in the defense, as well as in the oppossing box. Left winger-Ryan Giggs (Wales/Manchester Utd.)-The Welsh Wizard has speed, ball skills, and can finish and play forward when needed. Right winger-David Beckham (England/Manchester Utd.)-Probably the most famous footballer currently playing. On the pitch, what he lacks somewhat in speed, he makes up for in cross, passing, and free kicks. Defending midfielder-Patrick Vieira (France/Arsenal)-Strong ball-winner controlling the midfield for his teams. He can killed attack with his strength and start counterattacks with his passing. Attacking midfielder-Francesco Totti (Italy/Roma)-In his natural position, slotted behind the two strikers, Totti can rack up many assists with his creativity and threading passes. He can also finish a few in his day. Striker-David Trezeguet (France/Juventus)-01/02 Italian Serie A top scorer. Trezeguet can score from the air with his head and on the ground when he can pick a corner and slot the ball in. Striker-Ronaldo (Brazil/Real Madrid)-In WC2002 he won the Golden Boot and also won Fifa 2002 Player of the Year. He has flair to be a play-maker, but is best when put up top were he scores.. alot. Note:all these players are currently playing, so no Pele, Maradona, Klinnsmen, Beckenbauer, etc. thanks
my starting eleven Buffon Carlos Nesta Ferdinand Thuram Keane Giggs Beckham Zidane Henry Raul Subs: Viera, Ronaldo, Totti, Vieri, Maldini Players to Watch for: Ashley Cole- his speed and comfort on the ball when under pressure Diego Forlan- despite his early draught his recent form has been promising and he is starting more frequently Amoroso- not young, but an relatively unknown, a great striker for Borussia Dortmund Ronaldinho- already famous but someone who could really become a big player in the years to come Wayne Rooney- just from his performance againist Arsenal earlier in the year and that goal
