Figure'd I might as well get this thread started since I need a place to post this little teaser from agent Michael Wheeler. http://twitter.com/#!/MAEAgency/status/152866672049524736
Considering that the agent said "post-combine, superdraft," probably not. More likely by allocation order.
Remember South Africa? Remember how he came on in the 88th minute? He's a full national team player equal to Benny Feilhaber now. Anyway, hopefully this is where he starts to get his career on track.
That will show me for skimming.... LMAO How does the allocation order work? I'll be sure to read it this time.
Last I saw the allocation order was.... Chivas USA Houston Dynamo Toronto FC Sporting Kansas City Chicago Fire Columbus Crew New York Red Bulls Real Salt Lake San Jose Earthquakes LA Galaxy FC Dallas Colorado Rapids Vancouver Whitecaps (Jay DeMerit) Portland Timbers (Kenny Cooper) D.C. United (Charlie Davies) New England Revolution (Benny Feilhaber) Philadelphia Union (Freddy Adu) Seattle Sounders FC (Sammy Ochoa)
I didn't see where trophy case actually confirmed that Gale is moving to MLS, just that he's open to the idea. Stefan Jerome maybe? His loan at Sigma was set to expire and haven't heard if they were going to extend with Traffic. But of course, both these guys are still under contract with Traffic.
One thing is for sure. He's not getting that offer back. MLS doesn't take kindly to returning European washouts.
I don't think its personal, its leveraged negotiation. If a player wants to come back because his prospects for playing time has diminished in Europe they have no leverage in negotiation. Nothing to compete against. Its simple: business 101.
Sure, I'm not questioning their motivation, just the simple fact that players who come back to MLS after saying no don't get the same offers.
Sorry, thought you emphasized a personal reason over business. Any idea what his first offer was? What will it be now? I thought I remember it being close to 100K, now how about 65K. Is that logical? I guess it matters in some part how in need a team is for a CD and if they think it will help them. Portland really needs CDs.
http://espn.go.com/sports/soccer/news/_/id/5764564/anguish-gale-agbossoumonde So we're thinking 100,000 minimum likely not more than 200k. Not sure you can read anything into this but........
I've heard rumors of Gale joining the Red Bulls; however, if he has to go through the allocation order, I'm not sure how that will work.
This is MLS.....I mentioned in the thread where Trophy initially mentioned the possibility, that atleast the bottom 5ish teams could use atleast one starting CD right now, and a handful of others throughout the league as well. Just off the top of my head. Van-partner for Demerit Mtl- partner for Burling Tor- partner for Cann/Frings NE- partner for Soares Chivas- any CB....or partner for Pearce... SJ- still questions around Opera and Burling now gone Then you could argue teams like RB/Crew/Portland need it for one reason or another. Thats not mentioning the Gals who have a midget outside back playing in the middle and thats if Gonzo sticks around.
Nor should they. There are a lot of early EJ overtones, comments, and attitude that I see from Gale. Hope it's not true or a bad observation, but if you are so insulted, don't like the team allocation system then go back and make it work in Europe son. You have done NOTHING. I'm always amused when this happens.
I'm confused how the process is determined. I mean Feilhaber and Szetela were subject to the allocation process, however, Lee Nguyen was subject to a weighted lottery. I would assume it's league minimum or slightly above. Given how young he is and the potential he still carries, i could see slightly above. Lee Nguyen is making 60k (per wiki), i could see MLS paying similar.
Wasn't Szetela a lottery? I think so.............I remember the boy's crestfallen face when the Crew won it. It's a distinction I have a really tough time with. Here's the MLS roster rulebook: http://www.mlssoccer.com/2011-mls-roster-rules Who's made available via the weighted lottery? The players made available through lotteries include: (i) Generation adidas players signed after the MLS SuperDraft; [a la Luis Gil] (ii) Draft eligible players to whom an MLS contract was offered but who failed to sign with the League prior to the Draft. It is hard for me to understand the difference between say Sammy Ochoa (acquired via allocation) and Lee Nguyen................other than the fact that Nguyen was offered that original contract. Seeing as he was pre-IU at the time, I imagine it was a GenAd contract. So I guess one could argue that Gale's case is similar to Nguyen's case. There's just a longer period of time between the initial contract offering and the player's return to the US. Or perhaps Cody Arnoux, who was offered a contract by the league before moving to Everton.........and subsequently was made available in a lottery.
Well i was referring to his return to MLS Lottery to the Crew in 2004, Allocated to United in 2009 due to being a returning US international player
PaulTenorio Paul Tenorio MLS continuing to pursue Manassas Park and U-17 star Junior Flores. Sent another offer. Borussia Dortmund also interested.
Flores should really look at what Luis Gil is doing in the MLS and use that as an example of what his career path could look like. I am sure Flores has a number of teams in Europe that could go to, but he will have an extremely tough time cracking the first team. He has no chance to play with the first team or the reserves right now, and he will have a tough time cracking the first team in the future. Its better for him to get playing time in the MLS, so he can showcase his talent to european teams, so they can sign him in the future when he will be able to crack the first team.
