Here's a story on '96 Luis Felipe, who has semi-quietly won some MLS minutes after some time in the U.S. lower divisions. https://www.prosoccerusa.com/mls/sa...-jose-earthquakes-luis-felipe-mls-midfielder/
Foster Langsdorf a late 95 from Stanford who signed a HGP deal with Portland has 13 goals in 21 games from T2 and is the 2nd leading scorer in USL.
Snip: The Los Angeles Football Club (LAFC) has loaned defender Tristan Blackmon and attacker Josh Pérez to Phoenix Rising FC of the United Soccer League (USL). https://www.lafc.com/post/2018/09/04/lafc-loans-two-players-phoenix-rising-fc
In addition to Chicago losing Brandon Vincent to retirement, they apparently also lost Christian Dean the same way. The Fire release characterizes it as injury-related. https://www.chicago-fire.com/post/2...er-christian-dean-retires-professional-soccer And Matt Polster is on the "might go to Europe" watchlist this offseason... I'd mention Alan Gordon's retirement here too, but we all know he'll be back.
Jose Villarreal's contract wasn't extended by Orlando. End of the road for a once promising prospect? https://www.orlandocitysc.com/post/...ty-sc-announces-2018-end-season-roster-update Potentially also the end of the road for Jack McBean and Caleb Calvert. Contracts not extended by Colorado. #Rapids96 exercise contract options on four players.📝 https://t.co/PraOxvxieD pic.twitter.com/g7sxnkY8In— Colorado Rapids (@ColoradoRapids) November 27, 2018 By the way, another kid in this age group. Luis Gil, who was surprisingly at Houston (who knew?)……………..is technically going back to Queretaro. He's still been on loan. https://www.houstondynamo.com/post/2018/11/27/dynamo-announce-roster-moves-ahead-2019-season This '93 to '96 age group is just a skull crusher for those of us that thought there were going to be more USMNT-caliber players in there.
I learned so much about talent identification from watching Gil's journey. At U12-13 he was identified as a highly probable future pro. In looking back I now realize that what caught everyone's eye was his quick acceleration. Some of that was simply due to his maturing early. His skillset was decent, but only by U.S. standards. And what's panned out was everyone else catching up to him athletically and his skillset being just ordinary.
Gil should have learned how to play Dmid like Daniel Hernandez. You can be a #10 until you play against pros but can extend your career if you learn to tackle and hustle.
It's really '90 to '94. The 96s mostly sucked, but the 95 crop is solid enough. Allow me to present the 2007 U17 World Cup team: No. Pos. Another in this age group may soon disappear. Hoping to try his luck in Europe. Khiry Shelton unlikely to be back with Sporting KC in 2019 https://www.kansascity.com/sports/mls/sporting-kc/article222657820.html
Steffen sold to Man City for 10 million. Not quite official but still. https://www.goal.com/en-gb/news/sou...nsfer-to-manchester/l3kup5mq56831kirwmveojmuy
Was really thinking that Gutman would be an ideal HG signing for the Fire. Some intriguing #cf97-related news: Defender/midfielder Matt Polster and homegrown left back Andrew Gutman are currently in Scotland on trial with Rangers.— Paul Tenorio (@PaulTenorio) December 18, 2018
Another USYNT star sliding down the totem pole. In better news, his head coach is now Diego Maradona 🇺🇸 ¡Con paso en Europa, @LIGABancomerMX y proceso en @ussoccer_mnt, @RubioRubin está listo para pelear #ConElPezHastaElFinal! ¡Welcome! 👊🏻😎 pic.twitter.com/pK9xjoZ1Xw— Dorados (@Dorados) December 27, 2018
Another in this age group. Pffffffttt. Who's at the top of the MLS allocation ranking? [I don't think FCD "owns" his MLS homegrown rights Could be wrong about that.] 📝| Hibernian FC can confirm the departure of Emerson Hyndman following the conclusion of his six-month loan from Bournemouth.💚 Emerson leaves with the best wishes of everyone at the club.▶️https://t.co/4M0vqHZTu7 pic.twitter.com/wkTjvwCc4o— Hibernian Football Club (@HibernianFC) January 1, 2019
He isn’t on the allocation list, so they might just own his rights. Believe you only need to make a legit offer to maintain rights.
Who knows. I don't think FCD offered him a contract when he left for Fulham in 2011. What we do know is that Emerson and Rubin are part of what Klinsmann referred to as "the lost generation." And his fears about that 2016 U23 team have come to fruition. So many from that team haven't progressed for a myriad of reasons.
No, they weren't. Neither of those guys fit what JK was talking about. Injuries have had an impact on both of their careers. It completely turned Rubin's and slowed Hyndman's. Time will tell with EH, but I wouldnt consider him in the same category as the guys JK was referring. 2020 would be a reasonable time to start judging his career. It is unclear why the loan wasn't extended. All parties were considering it less than a month ago. The most likely reason is that Bournemouth need him, at least for back up duty. It is also possible that Hibs could have changed their minds, as Lennon hasn't been happy with the side over last couple of weeks. https://www.orlandosentinel.com/spo...soccer-jjurgen-klinsmann-brek-shea-story.html "We hope that some would have done a lot better, we hope that some of the younger ones would have made stronger players in their club teams. ... A lot of our younger players struggle to understand that it takes a lot more work and determination and aggressiveness to really make it to become a consistent, driven professional. "Where is our next wave? Holy moly. We lost that generation that didn’t qualify for [the] London [Olympics.] What happened to the Bill Hamids, the Sean Johnsons, the [Brek] Sheas, the Mix Diskeruds? You go through and make your own judgment. You go through it and we get back to our old thing where we say, ‘Hey guys, talent is only half of it.’"
We're delighted to announce Gboly Ariyibi as our second signing of the January window, on loan from Nottingham Forest 👏https://t.co/Ji3HfStEEe pic.twitter.com/SzQPhKBwGZ— Motherwell FC (@MotherwellFC) January 7, 2019
