The last go round on one of these threads for the 01-04s. Man, where does the time go?

Anyway, I started this thread so Dave doesn't have to. And because the season has started.

After the Olympics, this thread will only be about kids who are 05s and younger. As per tradition, I'm sure it will be the best age-eligible cycle, ever.

Hey @TheFalseNine, can you merge this with the thread started by @Sandon Mibut ? I didn’t look hard enough when creating this thread. My bad

Why not just use this one, I'm not sure why the other one says 2023-24 when MLS "in-season" doesn't span multiple years... a thread made in Feb 2024 doesn't need to mention 2023.

    Sullivan assist

    Gutierrez assist

    Berchimas debut

Certain people complain about MLS player development and all but two of these guys (Adu, Davies) are current YNT eligibles still in MLS lol
The oldest I'm guessing is Danny Leyva at 20?

Guti should be on the MLS team of the week

He is better when Shaqiri doesn't play.

Brady made 4 saves for Chicago. He did well.

I thought McGlynn and Sullivan were also good again like they were midweek in the Champions Cup. Sullivan really is confident

Aziel Jackson struggles for St Louis tonight as he was just subbed off vs RSL.

    Luna still on

Kamungo hasn’t scored or assisted, but he’s playing well.

He’s good in the physical game, 8/10 in ground duels and has drawn 4 fouls. The last was tough.

    it’s 1-1 in the 80th

Caught the last 30 of DCU-NER. In addition to it being the season opener, the Revs spent most of it a man down so I suppose there's only so much you can take from a game like this.

In the time I watched Buck was more or less just "out there" and Esmir was trying but not all that effective. He drew a foul that was called a PK and then changed, and got an extremely hockey assist.

KDP had a few moments. Hopkins was a very late sub. Fletcher was a bit loose on some passes; was playing wide left. You'd have to guess there are minutes available for all of DC's young guys this season, barring substantial reinforcements.

Lots of opportunities for thread eligible players this weekend in MLS so far!!

Its too early to really be concerned about minutes, but one that really stood out to me was San Jose. I thought the whole point of hiring Luchi Gonzalez was to develop the young players? They're not even in the 18! That's a very uninspriring XI. That was a pretty weak Dallas team they lost to. Dallas was missing all three of their DPs, Pomykal, Farfan, etc.

SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES: Daniel; Paul Marie (Vítor Costa 66’), Tanner Beason, Rodrigues, Carlos Akapo; Carlos Gruezo (Michael Baldisimo 90+6’), Jackson Yueill (C), Jack Skahan (Alfredo Morales 73’); Benji Kikanović (Amahl Pellegrino 74’), Jeremy Ebobisse (Preston Judd 66’), Cristian Espinoza.

Substitutes not used: William Yarbrough (GK), Daniel Munie, Tommy Thompson, Ousseni Bouda.

I watched the first half and although Esmir didn’t do much early on he did quite a lot in the back half of the first half. Has a lot of potential. I watched him last season and he didn’t do much in the limited opportunities he got.

I'd like to see one for Quinn Sullivan. It's looking to me like Sullivan and or Luna will be the key pieces in the middle on the Olympic team.

The only kid who is projected to get meaningful minutes for the Quakes this season is Niko Tsakiris, but he has been out all preseason with an injury. Guys like Verhoeven, Medina, and Mendoza may get some minutes but likely not a significant amount. Others like Ochoa or Walls I don't think anyone expects to see at all. Not sure what they even think of Chance Cowell...

Sullivan has improved his decision making and field awareness alot. What was holding him back is he often picked the wrong pass, the wrong angle, over dribble, or just try the wrong move. Last night he continually made the right choice and right move. The game seems to have slowed down for him and makes more sense to him.
