I missed that Duncan is on the bench, too. Murillo just picked up his second yellow in two matches, so Duncan could be in line for a start in the quarterfinals against Santos Laguna. Now Nealis is coming in for Aaron Long. I can confirm that Nealis a large human.
Surprised that Armas put out his first choice XI for this match. They're obviously prioritizing the CCL, but could've still mixed it up at home up 2-0 vs. a Dominican side.
Those two things have always been my biggest issues with him. Absolutely magic with the ball, but seemingly doesn’t want to try too hard. As of today, I see him Cuauhtemoch Blanco 2.0 and in today’s game, can’t get away with that as much as Blanco did. And GBS certainly won’t tolerate being out of shape and not hustling.

Yeah Matt Doyle also mentioned Djorde's European interest in the the 2nd to most recent Extratime episode and said it was from Hertha Berlin.
Played at SMU here in Dallas. Watched him a number of times last year and he was the best on the field on most occasions. Good to see a college guy make it through and get a deal. This is still a path to pro soccer, don't have to all sign HG at 16 years old.
Alvarez has always looked out of shape but still puts in solid performances and produces results. Will be interesting to watch him at the u17WC for Mexico to see if he can dominate. If he doesn't get time with LAG, not a given, it would make sense for him to try and leave.
Robinson starts, this time at RCB instead of in the center. Likely a good thing after how Parkhurst did at RCB in Costa Rica. Carleton is on the bench. No Bello or Vazquez.
Buzz's pre-season depth chart. I don't disagree with any of this that relates to our youngsters. Lots of thread eligible players either 1st or 2nd on the depth chart all over the place. I'd say we have right back covered! https://sportsday.dallasnews.com/soccer/soccer/2019/02/28/2019-fc-dallas-start-season-depth-chart
Wow if that’s how the coach sees it that’s insane. A lot of guys to get sub minutes if they show well and/or starts from injuries...they’re going to happen at some point.
Bleh no Busio, Lindsey, or Kuzain for SKC. Thought we were onto something last year but now I wonder if any of those 3 have moved up the depth chart at all.
Will have to hope they get some time in the weekend games after the next round of Concacaf Champions League assuming they don’t screw it up tonight.
Robinson could wind up captain of the u-23's. He'll be max age and appears to be breaking thru in a big way right now. He's been the best of Atlanta's back 6 from preseason up thru the first CCL games. Hopefully they don't job him from not being an incumbent and Pogba transferring in as surplus. If he got MLS domestic'd still think he'd be a rotation option for the u-23's. Really defensively alert and explosive. And passing has improved a lot. Still a bit cautious at times, but plenty of line breaking passes too, and slick passes to maintain possession or plays smart to just clear.
Yeah, I watched the first half of the Atlanta game tonight, and while Herediano weren't too much of a threat, I don't think Robinson put a foot wrong.
The next round of the tournament begins NEXT week. So the truth is that most of the MLS teams should be playing partial starters in MLS week 1. That should open up spots for guys on the fringe like Busio, et al. PS Actually KC is probably not the best example, as they have the weakest opponent of the MLS teams in the CL quarterfinals.
Its going to have to be that way. FCD had a mini-clear out of depth pieces after the end of last season (even trading homegrowns like Ulloa), and didn't replace most of those players with foreign veterans. So the starting XI is mostly the same as last season (9 of 11), but the depth is almost all developing youngsters. Dan Hunt has expressed a desire to eventually get to a homegrown starting XI. I would be thrilled if they start doing that in the USOC first round this season. But alas, they're a couple of more signing cycles away. [I've cheated below by putting non-homegrown Nelson at left back. Reynolds has played at CB in the preseason against low level opponents, but isn't a CB.] ------------------Ferreira------------- Pomykal------------------------Sealy------ ----------Cerrillo-------Roberts----- ------------------Servania----------- (Nelson)---Hernandez--Reynolds---Cannon -----------------Gonzalez----------------- You can actually do it if you include the former academy players on their NTSC team. Put Brecc Evans and Hector Montalvo at CB, and move Moises Hernandez to left back.
This one is finally official it seems: ⬆️ @LAGalaxyAcademy → @LAGalaxyWelcome to the first team, @julian__araujo!— LA Galaxy (@LAGalaxy) March 1, 2019 Congrats, @julian__araujo! All the best with the first team: https://t.co/jj86SiuOsM pic.twitter.com/etfL24HfUU— LA Galaxy Academy (@LAGalaxyAcademy) March 1, 2019
Interesting little wrinkle: I am told this was in regards to Julian Araujo. He didn't qualify for HG rights, so Galaxy had to waive and then reclaim to officially get him on the roster. https://t.co/rCtqez5jBA— Paul Tenorio (@PaulTenorio) March 1, 2019 They signed him to a contract, but didn't have the right. So the league made them go through this process to make it legal.— Paul Tenorio (@PaulTenorio) March 1, 2019
This one makes sense, though. Julian hasn't been in their academy long enough to qualify as a homegrown signing. In fact, not close. So the league figured out a way to make it work out. Fine..............................
I swear, being a GM in MLS has to be one of the toughest sports management gigs out there, solely from a roster compliance standpoint.
Unless you're the Galaxy GM. Then you do what you want and ask for forgiveness later. The saga with their four DPs seems like its a massive mess behind the scenes. If you want to see all of the Giovani dos Santos scenarios, including the idea of restructuring his deal and him walking away from millions of guaranteed dollars, you can get it here: https://t.co/bXnqjzobOK— Paul Tenorio (@PaulTenorio) March 1, 2019
