Seems like it should be MLS Next Pro time Stefan Chirila just can’t stop scoring 🤩 Is this a new season record? 😳 pic.twitter.com/c9lmrk7ZpJ— Footy Access (@footy_access) April 24, 2024 edit Making the move from @MLSNEXT to @MLSNEXTPro official 💪A product of @OCSCAcademy since 2020, @ColinGuske signs a contract through 2024 with OCB! #VamosOrlando— Orlando City B (@OrlandoCityB) April 24, 2024
If you're tired of American team operators turning out "Cityname FC" brands, you might like this one: In front of a crowd of more than 1,000 soccer fans, players, community members and policymakers, Maine's first professional soccer club announced its team colors and brand identity ahead of its planned inaugural 2025 season. Inspired by Maine pride and symbolism, the team will be called Portland Hearts of Pine, or Hearts for short, a distinctive name that was developed in partnership with local supporters and one that has ties to global soccer culture. https://www.uslleagueone.com/news_article/show/1308328
The "ties to global soccer culture" is a very well written way of saying "we wanted to copy Hearts so we made something up." I really like the name aside from the clear copycat attempt. It's got real Real Salt Like vibes. But still better than Portland FC.
I'm just disappointed to find out Portland Hearts of Pine won't be playing Vermont Green as they're in different USL leagues... also what about New Hampshire??
Kimbrough doesn't even speak Spanish right, we better not fumble this one... Davian Kimbrough (‘10) 🇲🇽🇺🇸 made his 2nd appearance in a professional match last night, becoming the ONLY player born in 2010 to play two professional matches 😳 pic.twitter.com/mJRSNOvB0L— Footy Access (@footy_access) April 28, 2024 Season debut and 2nd ever professional appearance last night for 14 year old Da’Vian Kimbrough 🇺🇸🇲🇽 https://t.co/9sGChRimVw— American Ultras Talk (@ameriultrastalk) April 28, 2024
And he'll never play for the first team... because the coach has abandoned what made him successful in Dallas.
Whoa who is this kid that's better than Messi No one in America is playing hotter than Nick Markanich.🔥 @Nmarkanich pic.twitter.com/0jBOdCYFFW— Charleston Battery (@Chas_Battery) April 29, 2024
What I know about Nick Markanich is that his twin brother Anthony plays in MLS for St. Louis. So this is a real MLS versus USL case study. The defender is in MLS and the attacker is in the USL.
If Nick were 20 then this would be a huge story. The fact that he is already 24 and he is doing this in the USL makes it less so. Still very happy for his success.
There’s a story from a Sacramento newspaper that said he was basically too young for the youngest US youth team and he was excited to play for the country of his maternal grandfather and was enjoying the experience. Mexico has a U-14 team and we don’t, basically. Who knows, anything can happen, but it sounds like he’ll end up with the US. His parents played football and basketball in college. He’s just a kid from suburban Sacramento.
So from his last name I'm assuming he has eligibility through his mom. I wonder if she taught him Spanish? I'm going to presume it's very difficult to feel comfortable on team you don't understand anyone compared to one where you do.
A thread with all the USL academies and maps of each region Between the MLS Next GA Cup, USYNT, and MLSNP, the MLS academies and youth development generate a large amount of attention and recognition, but they're not the only league with academies in the US. For those unaware, USL has academies as well. It's simply called @r_USLAcademy… pic.twitter.com/swAMk3WBSI— Zach McCabe (@zjmccabe) May 6, 2024
The problem is that USL Academies play each other ... and MLS Next has both MLS Next teams and like 80+ of the best independent academies in the US. If USL wants to be serious about development, then should be joining MLS Next (not Next Pro). I can't imagine the travel or level of competition is anywhere near Next Pro. If you include USL2 teams, USL would have more teams, but how many of them will ever field an academy really? This is one of those situations where MLS would get shit for going it alone but USL won't.

Not sure what this is about but interesting... 17-year-old midfielder Nate Worth will reportedly be leaving FC Tulsa and will join USL Championship side @TampaBayRowdies Nate was previously at the New York Red Bulls academy before he signed pro and will continue his pro career in the USL Championship ✅ pic.twitter.com/ImRxZTMIrp— Footy Access (@footy_access) May 7, 2024 Nate Worth 🇺🇸 needed to get out of Tulsa and does so, moving to fellow USL Championship club Tampa Bay Rowdies. This should put Worth in an environment where he can flourish. FC Tulsa will end up regretting this. The two clubs play each other in 11 days, hopefully Worth features. https://t.co/jUEMeSTDoQ— American Ultras Talk (@ameriultrastalk) May 7, 2024 I guess it's a play your kids thing and Tulsa didn't If this goes through, it'll be much needed for Nate Worth. He is too talented of a player to be wasted on the Tulsa bench. He showed that he could handle the USL last season. This is on Mario Sanchez. He just cost Tulsa from profiting from Nate Worth when he turns 18 next year.… https://t.co/1X9nqX17TC— Zach McCabe (@zjmccabe) May 7, 2024

Snip: The United Soccer League (USL) today announced that Westchester County, N.Y. has been granted the rights to a USL League One franchise. Westchester Soccer Club plans to kick off in 2025 and will host its home matches at the newly renovated Stadium at Memorial Field in Mount Vernon, N.Y. ... Solidifying the club’s commitment to nurturing local talent, Westchester SC will integrate the New York Premier FC academy into its operations, which will later be rebranded to align with Westchester SC’s permanent brand. Ok but Nate Worth moved TO Tulsa to get more playing time. Suddenly he needs to move again? I’m sensing a pattern here.
For the statheads out there I have collected some player metrics for MLS Next Pro: https://public.tableau.com/app/profile/paul.harvey6100/viz/MLSNPPlayerAnalysis2024/PlayerEvaluation Fair warning, this is not going to work on mobile. It has to be desktop on full screen.
