Portland survives its last major test, likely till the NCAA Tournament, with a 1-1 draw at No. 13 Oregon State.

The Pilots have 5 regular season games left (no conference tournament in the WCC) and only one of them is against a team ranked in the top 100 of the RPI, a home game against No. 51 San Francisco in a couple of weeks.

    Here's the update.

    2. Bryant --- 12-0-1 --- 70
    3. Portland --- 9-0-3 --- 30
    8. Maryland --- 8-0-3 --- 48
    10. Vermont --- 8-0-5 --- 20
    21. Duke --- 7-0-5 --- 75
    48. South Florida --- 7-0-5 --- 165
    64. Drake --- 5-0-6 --- 93
    127. Purdue-Fort Wayne --- 6-0-5 --- 211

How many, if any, of these 1-win teams got their only W over a non-DI team?

The last 4 undefeated teams can now say that Drake is - wait for it - not like us as the Bulldogs fell to Missouri State.

Meanwhile, Bryant survived its road game with No. 1 Princeton with a scoreless draw, setting up a glorious late October showdown with fellow unbeaten and reigning national champion Vermont on Saturday in Rhode Island.

Here's your Final Four of unbeatens, with their records, RPI and SOS.

    2. Bryant --- 13-0-2 --- 50
    3. Portland --- 10-0-3 --- 53
    6. Maryland --- 9-0-3 --- 61
    10. Vermont --- 9-0-5 --- 23

Bryant-Vermont isn't the only juicy matchup featuring an unbeaten this weekend as Maryland hosts No. 5 Indiana Friday night.

Portland, meanwhile, travels to No. 100 Santa Clara Saturday. (They host No. 43 San Francisco in the Pilots last big test of the regular season.)

Don't forget Resendes was coached by Dow at SNHU and was his assistant at UVM. Going to be a great game!

Maryland stays unbeaten with an impressive home win over Indiana, 3-2. This was a really good college soccer game and a nice atmosphere in front of a good crowd in College Park. Gave me hope for the future of the sport.

IU is a good team and on a different night this game goes another way. Maryland is really athletic and very balanced. They're gonna be a tough out the rest of the way. Either of these teams could make the College Cup.

    2. Bryant --- 13-0-2 --- 54
    3. Portland --- 10-0-3 --- 44
    5. Maryland --- 10-0-3 --- 43
    10. Vermont --- 9-0-5 --- 19

Well, the temperature has finally dropped where I live and with it, two more teams drop from the ranks of the unbeaten.

In arguable the game of the year, Vermont stays unbeaten by giving America East rival Bryant its first loss of the season. 2-1.

Meanwhile, Portland, which appeared to be able to be on cruise control for the regular season, goes down to the Bay Area and lays an egg, losing 1-0 to Santa Clara.

Here are the final two unbeaten teams, with their records, SOS and RPI.

    2. Vermont --- 10-0-5 --- 7
    4. Maryland --- 10-0-3 --- 41

My dad and I went to the game and the atmosphere there was fantastic. The fans were in it from before kickoff and both teams gave as good as they got. You are right, a great advertisement for college soccer.

    Vermont wins 2-0.

The Catamounts haven't lost in over 12 months, which is pretty impressive in any sport in any era. Their last loss (one of 2 last season) was 0-1 at UMBC on Oct. 26, 2024. Since then they are 19-0-7.

Maryland gets an 83rd minute goal to beat Washington 1-0 and stay unbeaten. They finish the regular season next week at Michigan State.

Here are Maryland and Vermont's RPI, records and SOS.

    2. Vermont --- 11-0-5 --- 7
    3. Maryland --- 11-0-3 --- 28

(Maryland's SOS would likely be a little higher if it had gotten to finish its game against 44. Wake Forest back in August. It was abandoned at HT because of lightning with the Terps ahead 1-0.)

As stated above, next week Maryland finishes the regular season at 98. Michigan State while Vermont is at 192. Binghamton. While upsets are possible, both should go into their conference tournaments without a loss.

So with the weekend's games done, the lone unbeaten teams are now ranked 1 (Vermont) and 2 (Maryland) in the RPI, in part because Princeton got an SOS ding that moved them from 1 to 3 and in part because they are, ya know, undefeated!

Maryland's last match, @MSU last Friday was quite enjoyable. UMD took 3 goal lead, but MSU scores in final minute of half. They make it 3-2, then Terps make it 4-2, but MUS doesn't give up, and makes it 4-3. Terps hold off for the win, and with it, the regular season Big 10 championship. The victory capped an undefeated regular season for the Terps (12-0-3, 8-0-2 Big Ten) as Maryland clinched the No. 1 seed in the Big Ten Tournament.

Third time Maryland has gone unbeaten in Big 10 play since joining the conference in 2014.

In 2016 the Terps went 7-0-1 (18-1-2 overall) and in 2022 they were 4-0-4 (11-4-5). 2016 was the year of the epic 5-4 collapse against Julian Gressel and Providence in the second round, the same round they fell to Cornell (really?) in 2022.

    This team just feels different.
