Yedlin starts at RB. Two teams in opposite form and Newcastle will need a good effort to reverse the trend entering the Holiday.
Birthday surprise as Newcastle score after a very direct ball is crossed centrally and finished by Joselu. Newcastle up 1 - 0 and Yedlin not involved.
Yedlin looks like he was instructed to stay tight with the backline. He hasn’t even looked to get forward.
16’ Yedlin bursts forward as the ball is played into space in front of him. He plays a long cross towards the back post but there isn’t anyone there sadly. Leicester nearly head the ball out for a corner but Schmeichel collects.
20’ Mahrez makes the central midfield of Newcastle look silly and scores a nice goal to make it 1 - 1. Yedlin not involved.
24’ Albrighton receives the ball in front of Yedlin, who allows to much space, and drifts centrally to unleash a pretty fierce strike. Yedlin should be closing that down faster, but there was to cover centrally to prevent the move.
28’ Super recovery from Yedlin as he catches Vardy on the break and just barely scrapes the ball away otherwise he concedes a penalty. Whew... A hero or goat situation but good determination from Yedlin and he needs to take those risks.
34’ Yedlin learns from earlier and aggressively gets to Albrighton as soon as he gets the ball. Harries him back to midfield.
35’ Yedlin marks Gray out of the box and he responds with a pass to Albrighton. Yedlin shifts and gets a foot in to tackle the ball away.
HT: Last 10 minutes were pretty uneventful and nothing much to report. Yedlin started very conservative, looking to not make any mistakes. Fortunately, he grew in confidence by figuring out how to slow Albrighton and then was needed to make a key recovery tackle to prevent Vardy from scoring. Hasn’t been involved much in offense, but Newcastle hasn’t really had much beyond the first 10-15 minutes.
51’ Yedlin stands near midfield looking intimidating while Newcastle take a corner [emoji6]. Riveting start to the second half...
55’ Ndidi’s head becomes a weapon of mass destruction as both Merino and Hayden fall to ground with injuries after 50/50 challenges. If there was any indication of where Newcastle needs some help that would be it.
60’ Mahrez pings a ball across field to Albrighton, whom one times it to Gray, who the finishes on a one touch shot. Very nice goal. Technically Albrighton was Yedlin man but some things you can’t defend. Mahrez shouldn’t have been able to get that ball off centrally. Leicester lead 2 - 1
72’ Yedlin bursts down the field on the counter, has a wall pass to the corner, but does send in the cross. Yeds knocks it back the edge of the and the ensuing cross is out for a corner. Newcastle take the corner and the ball falls to Gayle whose shot is deflected into the net. Newcastle equalize 2 - 2
83’ Yedlin bursts forward and lays the ball off for Atsu on the right flank who chose to take his man 1v1 instead of giving back to Yedlin. The ball is stuck between his legs and Newcastle turnover. Yuck.
86’ Newcastle are caught over committed. Yedlin challenges for the ball which is dumped route one past the CB’s who are stretched by multiple players. Vardy crosses the ball and Perez pokes it into his own net trying to prevent Okazaki from striking the ball. Leicester back in front at 3 - 2
FT: Leicester take all three points. Yedlin was solid in the game and had no glaring errors, but you always are culpable to how CB/CM play as a FB. Newcastle needs to invest to keep this team floating. They show glimpses of skill with very poor final balls and look embarrassing with their physical play in central midfield.
