Perhaps we should explain first why we are here. I had not been following Yedlin's season closely, because there had not been much to follow. His PL appearances were rare - there were many games for which he was not even included in the gameday squad, and even substitute appearances were uncommon. That all changed recently, after Newcastle was embarrassed 5-2 by Leeds - another game for which Yedlin was excluded from the squad. Since then Yedlin has started (and finished) three straight matches: Newcastle 1-1 Fulham Brentford 1-0 Newcastle (EFL Cup Quarterfinal) Man City 2-0 Newcastle
Life doesn't get much easier, as coming up we have ... Wed 12/30 Newcastle v Liverpool (#1) Sun 1/3/21 Newcastle v Leicester City (#3) Sat 1/9 Arsenal v Newcastle (FA Cup 3rd Round) Nice work, if he can get it.
Yedlin with a great goal-saving clearance. He's playing quite solidly again. I'm so happy for him that he's (presumably) ending his PL run on a high note. He looks so much more, well, professional and solid than I remember (but my memory sucks so what do I know)
I started watching in the '48. He has looked good so far. Used his pace to win a free kick about 25 out in the '50 or so but Newcastle squandered it.
Liverpool dominating possession in the '59. Trying to come down Yedlin's side quite a bit but haven't been able to break down the Newcastle 5-4-1 which is quite defensive.
'64. Liverpool dominating possession again but the last few minutes Newcastle has gotten out on the break some. That's when they seem to be most in danger though because they inevitably turn it over and have opened themselves up to Liverpool's counter... which is pretty dangerous.
Looks like your standard Rafa Benitez Newcastle side today - 75th minute and scoreless DY playing to script (same same) Go to a league and team where you get to PLAY young man, not just defend.
'78... Newcastle hasn't seen the ball much in the last 10... Liverpool winning a series of free kicks in the final 1/3rd and really putting the screws on Newcastle. Yedlin hanging on with the rest.
'79 Newcastle win a free kick on a rare break and almost score from a resulting header but Alisson pushes it wide for a corner and nothing comes of it.
Yedlin seems to be dropping back and in when Newcastle is in the Liverpool final third... last man speedster type of role I suppose...
pretty fun game for 0-0, both teams have had goals barely saved in the last 15 minutes of the game. Good for Newcastle for still looking for the win when they get the chance. -Yedlin clears *another* ball off the line
Very professional performance by DY, he's been frozen out for most of the season but when they needed him he has shown up and performed.
Flipped over to catch a bit of this game during HT of the BvB match and see a goal scored almost immediately. The ball came down Yedlin’s side and eventually Vardy played a little back angled pass to near the penalty spot for Maddison to finish. 1-0 Leicester. Yedlin wasn’t directly at fault but he was initially a little slow closing down the initial pass to the wings. He looks to be playing more as a RWB.
