David played last summer for the Raleigh CASL Elite wearing the #12 jersey.

6' 3" 195 pounds? This guy sounds like a stud. At that size if he can move at all he may be deadly.

I normally do not get pumped over draft picks (in fact i think most suck) but every once in awhile i get a hunch (as with Ryan Nelsen) and like he, Stokes looks promising.

He's a big boy. I got to see several of his games last summer. Seems real "smooth" moving around. Sort of like the way Dave Winfield ran around the outfield.

Good point Andy. He moves faster than he appears to be moving, and while he's fairly quick, he doesn't appear to be because he's very graceful about it. There was a major choice to be made between Shavar Thomas and David Stokes, and neither would have been a bad choice, but I think Stokes was the correct choice.

Shavar is more immediately ready, probably more versatile, and more capable of becoming an organizer. But in the end, Stokes is bigger and more athletic. Stokes is also American and local to DC (Hylton High). It also helps cultivate DC United's viewership area in North Carolina (Stokes attended UNC). In the end, Hudson sees Stokes as a bigger version of Daouda Kante. Hudson has proven to be a shrewd evaluator of defensive talent, and I sure wouldn't second guess him on this one. Of our top 4 choices, this is my favorite.

    Wow, thanks Andy.

But I never thought that I'd see a soccer player compared to Dave Winfield. In a positive way, no less!

Dude, you print that name or the other one (C.C.) again, and I'll never mention anything positive in relation to the Yankees again.

You could've gotten more mileage by threatening to never print anything I write for the ECG again, Pine Tar Boy!
