I haven't been able to confirm this 100%, but it looks like German-born '92 Jann George, who spend 09/10 with FC Nuernberg's U19s, is a Yank.

    http://www.fcn.de/junioren/u-19/saison-200910/spieler/profil/george/

Transfermarkt lists him as German/American. Also of note, and I have to admit it feels a little odd citing this but that's what came up when I did a web search, an obituary for a Mrs. Genevieve J. George of Louisiana mentions...

her two sons Leary George (Delicia) of Baton Rouge and Russell George Jr. (Aunette) of Nurnburg, Germany

    ... and...

Honorary pallbearers will be Leary George, Russell George Jr., Armani Lang, Jann George, Russell George III and Peter Anthony.

    Condolences to the family.

I'm sure Dave probably knows about this but when I saw this thread I looked up Nurnberg II on wiki and they had an american MF listed No. 11 Pellegrino Matarazzo.

    And here you go.

This kid is one you want to keep an eye on from what I've heard...

He's got an interesting background too.

    GEORGE READY FOR NÜRNBERG BREAKOUT

Hey mods, can we change the title of this thread to Jann George at Nurnberg or something better (more definitive) than this? Thanx

How was he a pallbearer at Grandma's funeral in Louisiana without being in the country?

Anytime your bumped up to the first team when your injured, it means something. Looks like his 6-month absence was an injury after-all. Probably would have been playing in the Bundesliga already based on his U-19 counterpart Mendler already seeing action this season.

Better don't expect him to start soon. It's a long transfer season, but Nürnberg have already done some homework.
Schieber leaves to his home club Stuttgart, but there's still Eigler. Swiss international Albert Bunjaku (who missed more or less the entire season) returns from injury. Nürnberg spent relatively big money for Tomas Pekhart (16 goals in 21 games for the Czech U21), and they signed the German youth international Alexander Esswein (17 goals for Dresden in the 3. Liga). These four guys are one or more steps ahead of George. A 3 years pro contract for a former U19 player doesn't have to imply that he's in their plans for the next season.

    Re: Jann George in Germany?

Jann George scored four goals for Nurnberg's U23 team team in a 14-0 preseason rout over TSV 1899 Rothenbach.

You can't really tell anything major when teams are this completely mismatched but there still are two really good things to take away.

    1) George is a starter for the U23 team and he is still only 18. His goals were #2,#3,#4,#6 in the game.

    2) It was his first game since his major knee injury last November. So he's healthy now.

Cap him... at the first mention of a first team call-up, which hopefully isn't too far down the line.

Good that hes mates with Chandler.

Chandler will shut them all up before George is ready, they have already gone quiet.

I for one welcome our new German-American overlords.

I can't wait to get back to Germany and randomly show up at U-23 matches with random posters stating "WELCOME TO AMERICA JANN!"

Great news.. If i recall correctly, he stated that he wanted to play for the U.S. so hopefully no worries there. And yes he's good friends with Chandler so George is definitely one we should continue to watch.

Well, at least he actually scored (even several times). That's more than what Gyau did when he filled in at Hoffenheim's first team at the start of the preseason.

It's Kent Brockman after they get images of the spilled ants floating weightlessly in the space shuttle when Homer goes to space (I think).

Way off topic but I love the end of one episode when the aliens are whipping people and enslaving humans and homer says "I voted for kodos"

I also welcome our German overlords!
