Thanks to another poster who sent me this link: In fact it was West Ham's director of youth development, Tony Carr, who asked Amankwa to train with them. When the training session concluded, "they said I could probably come back, so I went to another team to get more practice." That team was Wycombe Wanderers, which plays in nPower League 2, the fourth tier of professional soccer in England. Wycombe asked Amankwa to sign. He turned down that offer, as well as West Ham's -- for now. ... "I really want to play in Germany," he said. "When I was with the [U-17] National Team we played against Hamburg. ... [Eljero] Elia is my favorite player, and he plays there. I don't know; I just like Germany." http://www.gazette.net/gazettecms/story.php?id=1690 He is a '94 who plays with D.C. United. http://www.dcunited.com/academy-player/yaw-amankwa Has also played with some YNTs: http://www.ussoccer.com/Teams/U-15-BNT/A/Yaw-Amankwa.aspx
I'm not sure where Amankwa is at the moment; however, he stayed in the US at least through the end of the Fall HS soccer season. Though he was rated as a fairly high-level prospect (saw his name on a couple lists), it doesn't appear that he signed with a college. This could indicate that he will give Europe another go after the school year.
Pretty sure he was training in Europe in summer '11. Word on the street was he'd probably be going back after high school. He is a senior.
He played his junior year of college at THE Ohio State University, after transferring from Tyler Junior College. http://www.ohiostatebuckeyes.com/sports/m-soccer/mtt/yaw_amankwa_974315.html
