It's so important to release the early ball with players like Diaz and Sini and Arias. I think that's been the key these past couple of games.
Yeah Lorenzo deserves credit, Rueda was playing two fowards who don't make runs and Cuadrado who doesn't either and so everyone just stood around and we got crosses non stop or Diaz doing something crazy to create a chance. It was a terrible set up for everyone, and it's no surprise why alot of players struggled, we had no midfield and no good movement. Arias really too is so much better because he's playing a similar role to Cuadrado but you see that he plays vertical, making runs out of midfield as well as carrying the ball himself out which again just allows James to be a facilitator who combines. Why I've cried for us to play like this for years, Lorenzo is doing it and doing it well, and I think even the mistakes in personal he's making he's likely to get right over time as he sees the right vision of how this team can and should play imo.
Valerien Ismael on Yaser Asprilla: "He's a big talent... everyone sees it... ability, skill... now he needs to learn to be effective... at some point you have to become a key player - score goals, assists, be always dangerous. He needs to work on that consistency" #WatfordFC— Geoff Doyle (@GeoffDoyle1) August 25, 2023
He is looking more and more comfortable. Watching the the way he controls the ball and passes it all over the field so smoothly is almost like admiring a work of art.
Diaz---Sini---James ---Arias-----Asprilla -------Castano Lucemi-Mina-Cuesta-Munoz We could do this, essentially the cb's form a back 3 and Munoz plays as an inverted fullback beside Castano in possession and the front 5 essentially all are fluid making runs whenever they see the chance. Would be pretty sick possession oriented attack. Can also go more conservative and just play Borre too. Diaz---------Sini -------James Arias------------Asprilla ---Castano--Munoz Lucemi--Mina---Cuesta Essentially looks like this most of the time when we have the ball and are defending Munoz slides out and Diaz and Arias/track back runners on Lucemi's side, similar to what Manchester city does shape wise, but Asprilla and Arias being basically 8's/wingers who can also defend and Munoz being a RB/CM capable we should try this.
I agree! Arias and Lucho and Asprilla (now blooded in Championship) are all hard workers. Play to win. I'd be atleast up to try!
This is such an interesting stat profile for Yaser. His assist and xA rate currently are weaker within his mix. Yaser Asprilla is a star on the eye and on the numbers pic.twitter.com/8R3xJq4pHi— luke (@louorns) December 18, 2023 Those should be his strengths and given his vision, speed of thought and passing accuracy it's absolutely solvable and more about his positioning on the field. Love to see him over indexing on tackles and interceptions playing in the Championship of all things - that runs totally counter to what one would assume about Yaser given his physique and would indicate that he could play the role Villus proposed above. I would really love for him to get a shot at the Copa America.
tackles + int are tricky because you have to adjust for possession to compare but its clear he is happy to get stuck in and for a 19 year on the slighter side it shows he's willing to do the dirty work which is great. Arias and Yaser are pretty special profiles because they can provide a ton of problems with their ability to move and attack from different areas, and are fully capable as playing as wingers if the space opens there. Especially considering we have a clear problem with the 8 roll and keep trying to force Lerma and Uribe this just bypasses that and moves to our strengths by tweaking Munoz and adding a CB, a guy like Tesillo would be good for the roll as well since he's a sometimes LB as well as a CB but he's obviously a step down. Another key here though is you need to have a wide forward who will run the channel on the right. Sini/Muriel/Cucho are all the guys who fit that roll perfectly, this formation also asks the least running of James while also giving him the best possible set up he's ever had, with 2 guys he can pass with and who will make runs from midfield as well as 2 wide attackers to make runs in the channel, the great thing is too that Yaser and Arias are great passers as well so James can drop pull defenders and you can't key on him because those 2 will take the space and kill you.
And there is that assist... La asistencia que acaba de meter Yaser Asprilla 🔥 https://t.co/DFMA0fqPqf— Colombia Scouts 🇨🇴 🏟⚽️ (@JvenesPromesas3) December 26, 2023
no reason he shouldn't be getting minutes at this point for NT. Surely playing better than Carrascal.
I’m glad we finally got rid of Cardona and Quintero. Cuadrado is out due to injury but hope he doesn’t get called up any more either. only veterans are James, Ospina(shouldn’t be called) and Vargas( for his age doesn’t have many caps) and Uribe (pray he doesn’t get called up any more) think he dropped Barrios as well. Who isn’t that young anymore either
