Even though the Euro's are still going on, here's a preliminary list of the YAs that will participate in the UEFA continental competitions next season. I went off memory so I may have missed a few. Also I don't know about the Fair Play places. Schalke (Jones) CL Group Leverkusen (Yelldell?) Sean Cunningham and Stabaek made it to the Europa due to fair play. Clark's loan will be over by that point and I doubt Diskerud is with Stabaek by then
Þór Akureyri in Iceland's second division qualified for the first qualifying round of the Europa League by virtue of making it to the finals of the Iceland Cup (they lost to the League Champion) American defender Giuseppe Funicello starts for Þór Akureyri. But he may not be the only American at Þór Akureyri. They are scouting for players in Fairfield, CT later this month. http://www.facebook.com/ProImpactSA

Games: Thursday 7/5: KuPS (Etchu Tabe) vs Llanelli at 9:30 AM Eastern Stabaek (Sean Cunningham, Mix Diskerud) at JJK 12 noon Eastern Senica (Jann George) at MTK 2:15 PM Eastern Thor Akureyri (Joe Funicello) at Bohemians 2:45 PM Eastern I must say, I love the early rounds. Random Yanks at random teams playing other random teams all across Europe. It's like a geography quiz!
Currently training at Stabaek. No comment on his contract situation. I guess it's conceivable he could play.
Europa League 1st qualifying round first leg results: Stabæk lost 2-0 on the road in Finland against JJK. Rico Clark played 79 minutes and was credited wtih three off target shots. Sean Cunningham went the distance at center back, Eric Benjaminsen was an unused sub, and Mix Diskerud was not in the squad. KuPS won at home 2-1 against Welsh side Llanelli. Etchu Tabe went the distance at center back for KuPS. Guiseppe Funicello went the distance at left back as Thór Akureyri escaped Dublin with a 0-0 draw against Bohemians. Jann George was not in the squad as FK Senica picked up a 1-1 draw on the road in Budapest against a MTK squad that played the last 34 minutes with 10 men due to a red card. The second legs will be played July 12th.
Only one thing to add: Jann George is not on the EL roster for Senica, so we won't see him this round at least (same for Mix).
Games this week (first leg scores have YA team first): Thursday 7/12: KuPS (Etchu Tabe) at Llanelli at 1:30 PM Eastern (first leg 2-1) Stabaek (Sean Cunningham, Rico Clark) vs JJK 1 PM Eastern (first leg 0-2) Senica (no Jann George) vs MTK 1:30 PM Eastern (first leg 1-1) Thor Akureyri (Joe Funicello) vs Bohemians 2:30 PM Eastern (first leg 0-0)
For Stabaek, Cunningham went 90 and Clark started and went 42; so I assume he picked up an injury. KUPS drew 1-1 and advance. Tabe went 90. Senica won 2-1 and advance. No George. Thor won 5-1 and advance. Funicello went 90. 2nd round Europa League matchups: Maccabi Netanya FC (Leo Krupnick) v KuPS Kuopio (Etchu Tabe) FK Mladá Boleslav v Thór Akureyri (Giuseppe Funicello) Bnei Yehuda Tel-Aviv FC (Tom Almadon) v FC Shirak APOEL FC v FK Senica (Jann George) FC Twente v FC Inter Turku (Daniel Antunez) Turku have a difficult matchup for this stage.
It's Q3 and FC København are among the seeded all the way through the CL playoffs... and should they lose in the CL Q3, they are as minimum sure to be in the EL playoffs. .
