I am wondering if it is somehow reworking provisional cap typing so that Diego Fagundez situations do not happen.
Or eliminating "being a dual before the first game" rule. We will get Fagundez. Or no provisional cap-tie period. Youth players will jump back and force between countries even more. And we will get "the best youth player in Americas".
Allowing basically unlimited YNT switches (perhaps with a cup-tying rule that doesn't let you play in the same major individual competition for multiple countries) might be messy or controversial but it doesn't seem crazy. Neither does eliminating the "Fagundez rule." It does seem like something that more or less says if you play in a major adult competition for one country, you're stuck with them, is reasonable.
As a minimum, they need to eliminate the "5 years after 18" rule that requires a lot of players to submit waivers to FIFA. Perhaps add a "5 consecutive years before age 18" exception with a "moved not for football reasons" requirement.

According to this interview, Avalos had a Zoom meeting earlier this week with USYNT coaches. Plenty of recent evidence that US Soccer has been proactive in recruiting and staying in touch with players. https://t.co/8cIeWBFG5i— ChuckMe92 Soccer (@ChuckMe92Soccer) June 27, 2020
The entire 05 and 04 YNT player pool(approximately 120 kids) had a zoom meeting this week with G Berhalter.
I don’t have a full list of who was on the call, but if they weren’t it wasn’t because they weren’t invited.
Good thing we don’t have any duals with possible Chinese citizenship since zoom supposedly has spyware on it for China.
Not exactly true (the spyware part) but there are rumblings that if China wants to know whats on a zoom call...they can make that happen. Until the implement the full end-to-end encryption.
Wan Kuzain's little brother, an '02, is apparently of interest to Malaysia, just like his big brother, Wan Kuzain: The apparent success of mixed-heritage and naturalised players' programme has also seen it included as part of the Malaysian FA's (FAM) long-term roadmap F:30, and at the moment, several more mixed-heritage overseas-based players have been identified, such as Belgian right back Dion Cools, English teenagers Jaami Qureshi and Kobe Chong, as well as American-born Wan Kamal brothers, Wan Kuzain and Wan Kuzri. https://www.goal.com/en-us/news/har...imely-reminder-for/1ma2nuicknmae1ngczbtizohtj
Taishi Brandon Nozawa was called up for a short midseason camp with the Japan U19s. He has yet to make a matchday squad for FC Tokyo this season, having played a handful of games in the 3rd division with their reserve squad last year.
Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but it seems in this interview Santiago Munoz says he has been contacted by the USSF and has gotten good reviews from them although has yet to receive an official US call-up, and he says he is very much open to representing the US. From about 9:30 to 11:30 in the video. '02 striker who was born in El Paso and played for FCD's youth affiliate there with Ricardo Pepi before moving to Santos Laguna. Showed well for Mexico at the U17 World Cup although has not been at Mex U20 camps yet.
Sounds good. Only problem is that he's cap-tied, so it'll have to be at the senior level, if he ever becomes good enough for either senior team, at which point he's probably an irrelevant consideration for our youth teams.
Pure goal scorer. He's similar to a more athletic Busio in how he impacts a game (he's also a lot better overall). A byproduct of Germany's recent downturn is that some of the better German-American's might stick with Germany longer, and have more of a chance to suit up for their NT. German news source Bild is reporting that USMNT eligible Malik Tillman (18) is being moved to the senior Bayern Munich squad as the team begins preparing for the Champions League knock outs. Good point by @Balerion. This is something I had seen last week and wasn't sure if it was an error, but it does appear that Rivera ('03) would have to now file a one-time switch to play for the USA. It's unlikely to ever matter, but like with Alec Diaz, you'd rather have the option to call a player into a YNT camp than forcing them to file a one-time switch, and then getting a call into a YNT camp. If its close between a few players on the fringe to get called into a camp, the one cap-tied to another country probably won't be the one called in. I hesitate to assume lack of Chuck Knowledge (tm), but just in case, an FYI: Wilfredo Rivera is provisionally cap-tied to Puerto Rico (2019 CONCACAF U17s)— Jamie Hill (@_jameshill) August 8, 2020 Not that it matters for the purposes of this thread, but he scored his first pro goal yesterday. He's an underrated player in his age group. 66' - OCB Goal! Great ball from Jonathan Rosales finds Mosies Tablante. The midfielder finds Wilfredo Rivera at the back post for the header. Zion Suzuki (born in the US to a Ghanaian father and a Japanese mother) is a hot goalkeeping prospect in the Japan YNT system who was brought up in the Urawa Reds academy. After joining Urawa's senior squad this season, he has made the match squad once each in the J1 League and League Cup. At international level, Zion played in the 2017 and 2019 U-17 World Cups (starting against the US in the latter), was selected for the 2019 U-20 World Cup, and will look to secure a starting spot in Japan's U20 squad for the 2021 edition.
New Mexico U20 "virtual" camp includes five Mexican-Americans: Efrain Alvarez, Sagir Arce, Hector Holguin, Santiago Munoz, Julian Vazquez. Probably more or less the same thing as the Zoom meetings the USYNT age groups have been doing. This is Arce's first involvement with the FMF after a handful of US U17 camps. Also the first U20 call-up for Alvarez and Munoz. https://miseleccion.mx/noticias/3181/Convocatoria%20de%20la%20SNM%20Sub-20
Does anyone think Arce is anywhere close to making it into a US U-20 camp? I don't, and thats a huge weak spot for the U-20 pool. I wasn't thrilled with his play for the U-17's at the Nike Friendlies in November either. I'd prefer he not play for Mexico (I'd prefer none of those players play for Mexico), but you have to get very far down the list of players I'd be worried that Mexico might poach to find Arce's name.
He is definitely higher on their depth chart than ours. Could say the same about most or all of the other names too except maybe Munoz.
If this happened, it would make Jonathan Gonzalez eligible for the USMNT in fall 2021, if he were interested in switching. It would also keep Alec Diaz as a theoretical USMNT option down the road if he gets cap-tied by Puerto Rico and isn't recalled or they don't have camps. FIFA is working on a rule that would let players switch eligibility if they played a max of 3 times for the first national team before they turned 21, and at least three years earlier. The new rule will take effect next month if approved. https://t.co/99j42Nzz1t— MLS Buzz (@MLS_Buzz) August 19, 2020
would dest be ineligible to switch since he played in concacaf nations league or is that not considered a tournament 'final' by fifa?
