Alvarez, Castilla and Tanton in with Colombia U23's. In the last camp Alvarez was a starter at CB. I'm starting to think this could be a player the USYNT/USMNT should be in contact with. 2003, Left footed CB with pro minutes as soon as he arrived in the MLS this past season. I believe Jalen Neal was the only other CB in the age group who got MLS minutes.

I have a hypothetical for the community here.

There are about a dozen yank players on FYNTs at the 2022 U-20 CONCACAF championship which served as Olympic qualifying for 2024. How comfortable/uncomfortable would we be with a Tomas Aviles type of callup? He was the guy called up by Argentina U-20 months after playing for Chile U-20.

I'm not saying we need any of those guys but it certainly seems that it would easily fly under the radar.

The players in question would need to file a switch which is probably a tough ask.

You’d also have to check with CONCACAF/FIFA there are no issues with them playing for different countries in the same competition.

The last thing we need is to get disqualified down the line for playing an ineligible player.

This conversation (which I'm super into by the way, not saying that it says good things about my mental state) probably fits better elsewhere but... one other observation about the most recent cases apart from that they took place between qualifying and the finals is that neither of the two programs that "lost" players (Chile and Niger) qualified for the relevant final competition.

I truly have no idea whether Argentina and France actually got away with something, so to speak, or FIFA was just like "let's just say this is fine." Like would a guy who played for Puerto Rico's U20s just now be eligible for ours, but not a guy who played for Canada's? Who knows?

I think the thing is there are clear rules and they haven’t been changed. And we would know since the last rule change required a vote of the full FIFA Congress. So it’s not something that would happen quietly.

So I wouldn’t risk playing a player in any sort of official competition unless it’s been signed off on by FIFA and CONCACAF.

So, then, as a group do we just prefer to follow by the rules regardless of a low chance of getting punished? No Aviles style callups?

Looks like they have found a few more players from the DR diaspora, especially in Spain.
