Both Azcona & Boatwright were originally called in for the full DR national team. It makes sense they are focused now on the U20 WC.

Notably Koleosho was on the bench for the Italy U19s versus Germany, but did not play in the game. They still have two more games this window however.
So, I think I finally have a handle on the one-time switch rules for FIFA. You can check my math by reading this: https://digitalhub.fifa.com/m/3815fa68bd9f4ad8/original/FIFA_Statutes_2022-EN.pdf For players who never played an "A" international game (senior qualifiers, WC and confederation championships): 1) Any minutes in any official competition (by confederation or FIFA) at any level (U-XX) in any kind of football (futsal, beach, etc.) provisionally cap ties you. That rule is tighter than previous. This means Balogun needs a one-time switch 2) You can switch if you just got the new nationality (provided the usual residency stuff) and all your minutes were before you turned 21. That is really new. This means Castilla and many others can switch. 3) You can switch back from a "one-time switch" if you never were fielded in an official or unofficial game. That seems new. For players with "A" international caps (this one we all know by now) If you have only three caps in qualifiers and not competition finals, haven't been capped in three years and those caps were before you turned 21 then you can do a one-time switch.

He had a slight injury, so missed the first game. He's fit now & likely to play the second game as one of Italy's other attackers is suspended.
I think in Varas' interview he said he had chosen Italy for this age group; it didn't sound like it was something undecided.
Still worth noting whether or not this round of games makes it official, but yeah, it seems like Varas has moved on, even if the program hasn't in a general way.

Notably if Italy loses to Belgium they are out of the UEFA U19s this summer. If they tie and Slovenia beats Germany it comes down to goal differential (which is currently plus 1 for Italy and zero for Slovenia). If they don’t qualify it’s then a question of whether Koleosho is on the radar for the Italy U20 team.

Ireland has been making a run at Jack McGlynn: https://www.balls.ie/football/jack-mcglynn-stephen-kenny-usa-540011
That's a nice illustration of how the game has shifted. Ireland went to three of four World Cups starting in 1990 and was close to a fourth. They haven't made it since, though they were close in a few cases. Obviously, they have access to UEFA competitions too, which is attractive. McGlynn will presumably see where things lead with the U.S. but, if in a general way he sees Ireland as a fallback, this isn't as big a step down as some other guys would have to take, and he would still have to be pretty good to get the chance. (Of course, if he's just been waiting for they right moment to accept an IMNT callup all this time, fair enough I guess.)
