His one-time switch to Cape Verde and Keyrol Figueroa's one-time switch to Honduras were both approved by FIFA this week
Mexico put out a big preliminary roster for the WC: Julian Araujo Efrain Alvarez Jorge Ruvalcaba Richard Ledezma Obed Vargas Brian Gutierrez
Niall Mason named to Qatar's preliminary squad for the WC. Mason is uncapped; he recently became eligible for Qatar after playing there for five years, and also lived there for a while as a child. US citizenship is through his father. https://www.fifa.com/en/tournaments...026/articles/qatar-announce-preliminary-squad
We have had a discussion in his YA thread and the consensus is that his dad likely didn't live long enough in the US to pass along citizenship. Qatar doesn't allow dual citizenship, so it's moot.
Mexico beat Ghana 2-0 in a friendly last night. Started: Brian Gutierrez GOAL None of the other Mexican-American players were in the squad. The early goal: Keeper mistake, but Brian Gutierrez's strike is sublime. That last angle... 😮💨 🔥 pic.twitter.com/yrJ3yQcdrQ— herculez gomez (@herculezg) May 23, 2026 Gutierrez named POTM:
Internet soccer sleuths say that Courtney Clarke is eligible for Puerto Rico. No idea why, but it would mean he has a US passport -- though he might not be FIFA-eligible for the US. 🇯🇲🇵🇷🏴 Puerto Rico-eligible Courtney Clarke (23) has been named in the #Jamaica squad for the upcoming Unity Cup! The #WalsallFC RWB has had a busy season in England's 4th tier:🏟️ 50⚽ 2🅰️ 7As these are only friendlies, he won't be cap-tied just yet. Quakes midfielder Nick Fernandez confirms that he has had conversations with the Peruvian federation.
Given that these are friendlies, how many appearances would permanently cap tie Luca? As I understand it, there is still a path to a hypothetical one time switch. I don't see it happening, as Italy is going to go very young for the foreseeable future and he has a skillset they've lacked.
He can play in as many friendlies as he wants, as long as he never plays in a full-NT competitive match, such as a WCQ or Euro qualifier. He's over 21, so a competitive match would permanently cap-tie him.
Thank you for clarifying. I'd imagine he is in the picture with Italy long enough to be cap-tied. And candidly if he isn't at a cap tying level for Italy I don't know that hes good enough to break through current full national team players or the next wave of Downs/Gozo/Hall/Berchimas/Sarver/Tsakiris/Jamir/Albert/Campbell/Yapi and even guys like Monty Culbreath who I'd say is more likely to find his way into a full USMNT camp than a Germany one. Our pool is going to keep getting better, we will have more dual nationals in play, some will opt for other pastures. I suspect Italy until they solve structural development problems will increasingly seek out talent from the diaspora like Luca, Australias' Arena and Volpato, any number of South Americans with Italian heritage etc. (Which to be fair, every country is doing. Australia is bringing a Scottish striker, and Scotland an Aussie one to this World Cup. Even Argentina has guys from the diaspora on their provisional roster).
Jamaica beat India 2-0. Courtney Clarke started. Nick Simmonds and Joshua Grant were on the bench. No game report yet, so no sure if they appeared.
