Following the ninth-inning Game 7 World Series loss to Arizona last November, Steinbrenner vowed, "We'll be back. Mark that down. We'll be back." Well, so much for that, Georgie. The evil team is gone! :-D
It's the Rally Monkey Behold the power of the Rally Monkey. And Disney wants to sell...Since Eisner can't make a buck anyway, why not keep an asset that is fun to watch, even if tough from which to make a profit. Lost in the Big Soccer crash was my link to the RM, on the "Favorite Monkeys" thread in FFA. Truly tragic. Can't determine which ALCS opponent will be tougher. Can't believe I just got to write that.
Well if the A's win tomorrow, I'm behind the Angels all the way. Of course the Twins have to be sentimental favorites since, as one of them put it, "Bud tried to get rid of us."
I'm rooting for the Contraction Kids just to say "F YOU SELIG". But as long as the Yankees are out, I couldn't give a rat's ass who wins the Series. Now all I need is for the Giants to wake up and overthrow those Tomahawk Choppin morons.
redwhiteandblue is very glad to see the Yankees go down to defeat. It's about frigging time we get to see a World Series with somebody else. Remember these words: Beware The Power Of The Rally Monkey! Thom Brenneman mentioned that the Rally Monkey made it's first appearance of the day with Gil at first, one out, in a 2-2 game. The Yankees were all done from there.
Yanks are done! I love it. The only thing that would make my happier is the Braves winning the world series - and the the Diamondbacks and the Yankees both gone, it seems like it may just FINALLY happen!!! GO BRAVES
At least a few posters seek the spectacle of a team almost contracted aiming for the World Series. This can probably be extended to the public at large. And hey, the Halos can score in bunches. They're fun to watch. So, I disagree, respectfully. However, I personally have to pull for Oakland-Anaheim. Second only to Seattle in West Coast grudge matches. The last 2 regular season series between A's and Angels were thrillers.
I think he meant Selig and the money people, and no, I don't think any of them are jumping up and down. I'm as pleased as I can be, since the Red Sox aren't in it. The two teams won that played the best fundamental baseball. Does anyone look at the 02 NY scum and see the late 70s Red Sox? It's all home runs and errors now down in the Bronx. Now I am really hoping that George throws one of his classic five star nutters and fires all the front office people responsible for this run, like he did after they lost to the Dodgers in '81. Afterall, based on past history, I refused to believe he deserves any more credit than comes from throwing huge piles of money at a competent GM. I watched most of the game Saturday, and I absolutely could not believe the crowd. It looks to me as though this team has a following it deserves. Never thought I'd see that west of the Rockies or South of I-40. Winners in California usually get pretty big crowds but they were totally into it, and the sea of red effect was very nice too.
Suck it, Yankees. Contraction kids or not, I'm rooting for the Angels because they took out the Yanks.
Re: It's the Rally Monkey Also lost in the crash were your rantings about how ba the Angels were and your hatred of Tim Salmon during their 6-14 start. Those posts made me laugh.
You didnt read that correctly. Baseball hates this ALCS...small market "You guys tried to get rid of us" Twins vs the Who are these guys Angels. The ratings for this are going to be incredibly low without the Wankees, so yes, my comment is dead on. As a fan, I am stoked to see this ALCS..hell if I had my way, the World Series every year would be something like Royals - Expos or Devil Rays - Brewers or Tigers - Rockies. Only perenial losers and small market teams!
Anaheim = LA Im pretty sure LA will tune in for this atleast out of curosity of what those Disney kids are doing.
Anaheim = LA for people who live in SoCal. For the rest of the country, Anaheim is a no-name market that isn't LA and therefore won't draw the same interest a team with "LA" in its name would. Besides, people think Dodgers when they think LA baseball, and when they think of the Angels, many people still have the name "California Angels" ringing around in their heads (the name for most of the franchise's history).
It may also keep a lot of the viewers who are curious to find out more about the Twins and Angels. Also, there are lots of fans that will tune in because the Yankees are gone, and want to see someone else for a change.
Not at all. You said, "baseball" hates this ALCS. That's not specific...I took it to mean any party that has an serious stake in baseball, management, players, fans, TV networks. Notwithstanding the vagueness, I meant "Selig and the money people" may benefit from the viewership of fans that want to watch the nearly contracted Twins try for the World Series. The Angels also score frequently (as least against the Yanks), which may attract fans that complain that games lack sufficient offensive excitement. But that's pure speculation, the life blood of message boards. The Wanks (classic, BTW) equal ratings success? Not in their last several World Series. 1996 Series ratings rise but still below '95 1998 Fox posts lowest-rated Series ever 1999 World Series ratings up from last season (but still second lowest in history) 2000 All-NYC World Series Lowest Rated Ever 2001 ratings were good, but not at the start of the Series. One could even contend that the prospect of *not* seeing the Yankees win was the draw. Me too. The Braves or Yanks gets old year after year. Cards/Giants will be fun to watch. I hope the ALCS is exciting too.
woo hoo!!! wish the Yankees could have held out a little longer though cos i think the next match in the series would have been shown live on CH5 in England and i could have watched the yankees have their butts kicked
A little late for this, but I saw this "memo" at my workplace: "Half the payroll, twice the heart. GO ANGELS!"
So it's over. Least the Yanks made the post season rather than the Landsdown Street Chokers. Should have cleaned house last off season. Saw the signs, but a few people, including myself, joked that maybe they can get away with one more WS appearance (in actuality, last year was THAT one) Sure blame the Yankees for having a large payroll. That makes as much sense when arguing with a woman: I know girls cheat, but men cheat more. Big deal, you're still cheatin. So, when a different team with a huge payroll comes around and wins (a Showalter-led Met team or whoever) will you bitch like little whores also? Then again, I'm not a Steinbrenner fan. I understand his ramblings and rants in wanting the Yanks to win, I just wish that he was banned from baseball permanently, but signed the checks.
